Re: NHL 13 Be A GM Community Wishlist

Oh, and I know they would never do it but I wish they would take a note from the UFC game. Take 2 years and take the time to develope a masterpiece...but no that wouldn't be as profitable as rushing to release a game every year.

You can just create a team in your own city and replace one of the teams with your created team at the start of your BaGM.

Some of my thoughts I have to add onto this huge list:

More interaction with players. For example if you have an aging player, they might tell you at the start of the year they are thinking about retirement. Or if you head into the trade deadline not looking good for a playoff spot that same player might say he will retire but wants to be traded to a contender.

Trade deadline and the weeks leading up to it need work. Other gms should label their teams as buyers, sellers, or neutral. As well the should say as buyers what hey are looking for: a top 6 forward, depth player, role player etc. sellers should dictate what commodities they are willing to move based on contracts, pending free agents. Teams should have a more sophisticated AI. Say a team like Colombus can recognize they need to rebuild so they will do business like a rebuilding team would. More willing to trade away a top rated player if the right offer comes along.

I would love for commentary to talk about history of your team from your years as the gm. For example you beat a team in the playoffs in 2012 then in 2013 you meet the team again in the first round. Sound bites like "here we go again, this rematch is shaping up to be more intense then last year when team a beat team b in 6 games. Team b has grown a lot since last year and aquired player a through free agency and player b via trade"
Even more bites that are relevant to that same playoff series. Say player a scores the game winner in game 2. Then in game 3 hey say "player a, the hero of game 2, will he he the hero again tonight". Even during the season "the last time these 2 teams played player a had 3 points in a Thrilling 4-3 overtime win"

Fix fighting...seriously. They don't even need to put much effort Ito it. Anyone else cringe every time you fight and all thep layers and coaches vanish?

Instead of just being able to hire/fire coaches, you should be able to hire lots of staff members to your team. Assistant coaches, individual scouts, goaltending coach, strength and conditioning coach etc. the head coach you want to hire may also want final say on any assistants you want to bring in or doesn't care.
When or if you get fired, you might be able to poach some staff from your former team.

Fix the owners expectations. Ok so you can win your division but didn't get 47 wins so your owner is dissapointed? really? It should be based on things such as playoffs or division titles. Or for teams that are building they will be more patient and will never have an expectation based solely on number of wins.

Players salary expectations should be based more on a actual stats they had the past few years then just their overall. For example, Take the average of player scored 40 points to determine market value of the player you need to resign that just scored 40 points in the past year. Of course include things such as potential, moral into the equation.

For free agent signings or player resignings, have the ability to make promises. Such as ice time, line mates, or the role they will be asked to play. If you break promises the players moral will go down.

I am reaching but also having the ability (even if it rarely will happen in the game) to have conditions attached to draft picks in trades. For example if you make the 3rd round of the playoffs, that 2nd rounder in your package for the player you aquired at the deadline turns into a 1st rounder.

I think that's all I can think of for now that is not already on this list.Dare to dream...
Great ideas! Keep them coming!

Updated #33. I changed "Players should request trades" to "Player Interaction".

Added #48- Better Trade Deadline.

Added #49- Commentary should Recognize History between teams.

I agree that they have to fix fighting. But that is more of a gameplay-fix rather than a BaGM one.

Updated #31- Coaches and other Staff

Added #50- More Realistic Expectations and Goals.

For players' salary expectations, see numbers 30 and 43.

As for making promises to players, I think this would do more to hurt BaGM than help it. In real life, things change so much in the NHL like linemates, teammates, and playing time. I can see the players getting angry for reasons that you cannot control and wanting to be traded or something too easily.

Added #51- Conditional Draft Picks.

I would LOVE for them to take a year off from releasing a game and have the next game they come out with be absolutely amazing!

Oh please NO!!!!!!! We do NOT need any more game modes! And they REALLY need to improve the offline BaGM before they put in an online one!

Don't get me wrong, I would love an online BaGM. But I think they really have to make some BIG improvements to offline BaGM first.

You know what upsets me? Out of this huge list we have so far, other games (like MLB The Show) already have most of these things in the game. This really proves that the NHL series has sort of fallen behind. Let's hope that they can get back on track!

Re: NHL 13 Be A GM Community Wishlist

Thinking about it, you are right with player promise idea. It would probably just be a pain more then anything. I also agree with no online be a gm....they need to master the modes they already have instead of splitting up their creative team. In fact I wish they would scrap some things like be a pro mode. Great idea in theory but I think it isn't complete and takes too much attention away from be a gm.

Again, I am just thinking about anything here. This list is seems pretty complete.

Kind of expanding on player interaction...you always hear "he is a great locker room guy". Certain players, usually veterans, should increase moral and players overalls. Not a lot but just a bit. Factors in determining that would e a veteran who has a lot of experience and a Stanley cup. I dont know how many interviews I have seen in hockey or sports in general when they talk about aquiring a guy who has a ring and the tremendous confidence It gives the rest of the team.

Conversely, there will be players that have a risk of loweriOng chemistry and moral and overalls slightly. This is where it would be important to have a good coach. One of the coaches attributes is his ability to change a guy with a bad reputation to buy into the system and become a better lockeroom guy.

I know be a gm has your "rival teams" but it's based on what? Division rivals and if you insult other teams with bad trade offers. Well keep that in but the rivalry bar should be more detailed. For example team a takes out player b on team b in the regular season with a big hit (dirty or clean), then that adds to the rivalry. Ryan miller might come out to the media and say the team " is gutless". Multiple matches in the playoffs increase it as well. This bar will effect and personalize the rivalry. Have players or coaches call out the other team sometimes to increase it. The higher is gets, the more intense the gameplay will be by say aggression from the AI. Make sure it decreases as well, when teams lose players via free agency or don't play the team in a long time.

If you play as an American franchise, had the option to turn the "Tim Thomas" feature on or off. In which your goalie will refuse to visit the whitehouse and will make political or religious staments then refuse to talk about it to reporters.

(kidding of course )

I really hope that someone from ea sees this list or they have already come up with it on their own. Even only a few would make this game so much better.

Oh, seperately I found out how to fix the too many great UFA and RFA sitting in free agency problem. It takes time but before starting be a gm I went through every team and lowered the ridiculous contracts some players have(Gomez at 7.5/Elias at 6.5, Blake at 4.5). I did the same amount for cap space from each team. I am now 6 years in and have not seen one team leave a good RFA sitting. Some teams have also almost spent up to the cap limit again. Now I am not 100% sure but it seems since I did that, players salary expectations are a bit lower(and more realisitic). I don't know if it's because the average contract is lower or what. HoPefully I don't have to do this in NHL 13...

Re: NHL 13 Be A GM Community Wishlist

I basically only have time to play Be A GM in NHL and franchise in MLB: The Show now so these additions would be great. But I doubt any of these will be implemented...if they add some stuff it will be a handful of things. They are already not doing another patch this year because of money. Hopefully, this is a sign they are putting all of the money they are getting from UT and boost packs into NHL 13 instead. Who knows. I like Be A GM, but right now it is only good. The potential is there for so much more though, and that is what frustrates me.

I played Varsity High School hockey for four years, travel A and AA ice hockey for like 8 years and two years of college hockey. When I play a hockey game I want to be immersed in it. Hockey is the best sport on the planet. In my opinion, no sport involves more raw athletic talent and skill. I am not sure how concerned EA is with keeping their customers happy, but SCEA does a great job with listening to their customers and implementing their requests in a reasonable manner. I guess it is kind of hard for them devote so much time, effort, and money into a sports video game when that sport is followed globally but by an astronomically lower number of people compared to say soccer (FIFA). The FIFA games get better each year. Canada is obsessed with hockey, but the majority of the USA is not. The majority of them are blinded by football or baseball. The baseball doesn't bother me, but America's obsession with football does bother me a little bit. I just wonder if EA does not have the fan base with hockey that they need to implement everything we want. The hardcore fans of the NHL series are just that, hardcore (diehard)...whatever you want to call it, but it just doesn't seem to be in the cards. But I still hope and dream every year. Haha.

Once I get married and have kids with my fiancee I am sure my video game playing will be limited to NHL and MLB exclusively, and with being in Veterinary school it is almost to that point now. But I hope that when that happens both NHL and MLB: The Show are amazing possibly on a PS4. But then the forward progress may take some steps back with having to deal with the new hardware. Sorry for the long post...I guess I just got on a little rant. Come on EA, make NHL 13 an epic sports game. Take some notes from NBA 2K, MLB: The Show, and FIFA and get it done.

Revamp create a team mode:

- Add more logos and team names
- Add ability to type in cities and names
- Return logos to NHL 11 (they are pixelated and washed out in 12)
- Make an expansion team mode

There is more of course, but that would be a GREAT start

I agree with everything you said here. The NHL series really needs to catch their franchise-type mode up with the rest of the sports games on the market.

I agree that they need to show create-a-team some love. I love creating teams. But that is its own mode, not BaGM.

Actually, most of us CAT users take our team into franchise, replacing another one. This was by far the worst year for it...not only has the mode been unchanged for 3+ years, now they actually took things out of it. The jersey logos used to be high quality to match the real life ones. Now they are all pixelated and look like we're playing on a Nintendo 64 or something. And the team logos on the intro screen are now colorless, again taking away something that was in last year.

It makes BeAGM really stink because it kills immersion when you want to simulate adding an expansion team (or pretend to move an exisiting team)...you have the real teams and then the guys on your team from NHL 98.

I know what you mean. I always use create-a-team to get rid of the Phoenix Coyotes and once in a while the Florida Panthers. So I would LOVE for them to improve create-a-team. But I would also like an easier player-editor and other things that you do before starting your BaGM.

And ever since the PS3/XBox 360 generation of NHL, I am pretty sure the logos have been colorless at the intro screens.

As for the logos being pixelated, I hate that too. That was definitely a step backwards.
