Re: NHL 12 "Be A GM" Mode Discussion Thread

Nice Gods, good luck
Edit (update):
I finished the season 1st in the Western conference and 4 points ahead of Anaheim who is in my division. I was 2 or 4 points off of winning the president's trophy. First round of the playoffs was against St. Louis and I defeated them in 7 games. Was a good series. Western Semifinals are against Anaheim, and so far the series is 3-1 in my favor. My first line has been doing amazing for me. Brown and Toews both with 7 goals and Taylor Hall right behind them with 6. Brown has 12 assists and Toews 10. Holtby is my starting goalie as he was doing more consistent at winning games and Crawford was very streaky for me. Will update again after the season.

Re: NHL 12 "Be A GM" Mode Discussion Thread

I'm playing a BAGM season and my PP percentage is at 12%. The PP never clicks. NEVER. I've tried a lot of different combinations and I have given each combination a few games to get a chemistry going but it never never ever clicks. Its been like this for 3 seasons now and I've given up. But it really hurts my season performance. My defense is top 5, goalie top 10 and penalty kill is top 5 but I loose games because I cant score on the powerplay. So frustrating. Anyone got any tip for me on how to construct the PP-lines?

Re: NHL 12 "Be A GM" Mode Discussion Thread

@Filly
I struggled as well, and do at times but my powerplay this past season finished at about 21%. It was at 24% for about 1/4 of the season and then dropped a lot to 18% but I managed to bring it back up again. I try to find my defensemen who have a good slap shot, are able to move the puck around, etc. My first line of power play usually consists of my first line players, typically my star players. That also involves a power forward, sniper, and play maker. Just look at points where you struggle, and when you do score, what is successful for you? For me it was not moving the puck enough and not being patient. Cycle to puck down low and bring it back up to the point. Sometimes you can get a pass to a pointman from down low and there will be no players defending you D men. That is when you can go for a one timer. Also try to aim you shots well when there is traffic infront of the net. You can go for tips this way, but also you can drag the puck with your D man from right to left or left to right (depending on where traffic is) across the blue line and the goalie sometimes doesn't see because of the traffic infront. CPU defense doesn't always cover people down low. This means that you can use your 2 forwards who are infront of the net to score as well. Just pass it around and try to get the 1 D man down low to move and your other player will be open. Hope this helps

For some reason, my power play either is unstoppable or it fails. My recent BAGM had a 29% (!!!) power play percentage in the regular season (Malkin, Duchene, Havlat, Ponikarovsky, and Blum for the first line, and Cal O'Reilly, Landeskog, Latendresse, Rolston, and Garrison second) and is even better in the playoffs (I'm about to start the Cup Finals). I just passed the puck and took a lot of one timers. If you are a good passer, try to score a lot on the rush with one timers. I scored on the rush or with one timers for about 80% of my goals. It's easier on the power play because of the man advantage. Hope this helps!

Re: NHL 12 "Be A GM" Mode Discussion Thread

I just purchased NHL 12 over the weekend and started up Be A GM with the Anaheim Ducks.

And so far, I'm having a lot of fun with the game. My Ducks are off to a good start at 4-2-2, all without Corey Perry. Perry was injured during the Preseason and will remain out for another six weeks. So I'm excited to see the team playing well, even without one of our top players. The one thing that concerns me is, we have yet to score first this season. Regardless, we are playing well, and hope to do so while Perry is out.

I'm not to keen on many of the players in the league today, but I'm looking to move Parros, Brookbank, or both in hopes of getting either a RW or D. I know neither are that good, but I'm not looking for a star, just quality veteran guys that could help us at those two positions. So any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Re: NHL 12 "Be A GM" Mode Discussion Thread

Martin Havlat is a good quality veteran RW. He scores a lot of goals and can dish the puck as well. Best used on rush to take advantage of his speed. Zach Parise is a great LW but I have played him at right wing before, and he still puts up numbers. There are certainly others out there, but these are the best players of whom I have had experience with. If you are going to trade Brookbank and Parros, though, you might need to offer a little more for these guys, but I think they're worth it. Hope this helps!

Re: NHL 12 "Be A GM" Mode Discussion Thread

Thanks for the suggestions. Going to look at both of these players when I get home. If I have to throw in another player, I do have a young guy I wouldn't mind parting with. At the age of 19 I'm hopeful Devante Smith-Pelly could help sweeten any deal. He was atrocious for me during the first couple games and I decided to dress Palmieri in his place. A move that has helped spark us to the record we have now (4-2-2) after starting the season (0-2-0).

Re: NHL 12 "Be A GM" Mode Discussion Thread

Just an update if anyone cares about my previous posts. My season ended and the playoffs ended too. I finished in the finals and lost the series 4-2 (I made a little mistake and simmed a game but oh well). I have made a few big moves that has changed my team quite a bit, so if anyone is interested I will post them. Starting my next season, but I upped the difficulty to Superstar and am currently about 4-5-1 or something.

Also one question. I read a post on these forums that say the game plays better without the updates downloaded and using the original tuner 1.00 or whatever. I agree, and have been playing that way for a few weeks now. But my one question is, is there anyway I can get a roster update or how would I go about doing that and getting the updated players/rosters for the current teams. Thanks

Nice Bloop it looks like an awesome team. I agree that the game is more fun developing picks into superstars and it shows in your lineups. Good luck in the cup finals!
