EA Sports NCAA Basketball>RUMOR: EA Sports is dropping NCAA Basketball * Locked confirmed
Hey_Rebby 11:34 AM 02-02-2010
I got information from a good source that EA will not be making NCAA Basketball '11. I have a friend who works in licensing for a Big 12 school. He received a memo from CLC saying EA was pulling the plug on NCAA BBall '11, but they might consider making '12 and make the game every other year (which I found interesting). Despite not making the game, EA still has to pay the schools a guarantee royalty check because of the exclusivity contract.

I never got into the EA Sports NCAA BBall games. I don't think they were better than College Hoops 2K8, but this is sad for those people that liked getting a new college basketball game each year. It makes me mad that 2K got pushed out b/c of the exclusivity thing. Now we have nothing to look forward to next fall.

Well, that means I will slowly get my rosters up and going (deadlyCane's for the 360) so we can have them for next year....

I knew this was going to happen....Everyone here is going to need a big :-)

Rough day for EA's basketball titles.

I'll still pick this game up again for $5 in the bargain bin in a year or so. It's fun to play human vs human at least.

2k didn't get pushed out they gave up college basketball just like EA is about to do because it doesn't move units. EA purchased the license AFTER 2k gave up on college hoops. Im still pissed because if they would not have made all pro football we would have gotten at least one more college game.

I didn't think EA ever purchased an exclusive license, 2K just dropped out and EA continued to make a game. Something is fishy here. While I don't doubt NCAA BB 11 is dead, I also don't believe that EA is paying royalty checks over it.

EA did get the exclusive license, though it was after College Hoops was killed off.

Sean O'Brien: The decision was made easy for us because 2K Sports walked away from college basketball. For us, we're trying to grow this market and we were challenged not to have that full piece of the pie as revenue to grow it. We're excited to really grow this business, as we've done with NCAA Football once they went exclusive. Having the partnership with the NCAA gives us the opportunity to work directly with all of the partners that are part of the NCAA and that helps us build a better game. We feel this was a great opportunity for us to grow this business and make the college basketball game that we all want, and that the fans want as well.
