EGM Review makes no sense.

I just got the new EGM in the mail today. They gave the game a C+. I am not making this post to talk about the score. I am making this post to talk about some of the stuff mentioned in the review. The little headline of the review reads, "Not ready for the Pro's." Um really? Maybe because its COLLEGE basketball. Secondly, it states in the review that EA purchased the exclusive rights to make NCAA Basketball games in January 2008. Well that's news to me. I was under the impression that 2K simply took a year off with their game, and could very well come back with College Hoops 2K10 next year.

Am I wrong about this? If so I apologize. If I am right, then what in the hell happened to good journalism???

Re: EGM Review makes no sense.

EA did purchase the exclusive rights from the CLC, once 2k stepped away from the negotiations. Here is a quote from an interview on gamedaily.com:

GameDaily BIZ: How did EA Sports end up with the exclusive NCAA Basketball video game license?

Sean O'Brien: The decision was made easy for us because 2K Sports walked away from college basketball. For us, we're trying to grow this market and we were challenged not to have that full piece of the pie as revenue to grow it. We're excited to really grow this business, as we've done with NCAA Football once they went exclusive. Having the partnership with the NCAA gives us the opportunity to work directly with all of the partners that are part of the NCAA and that helps us build a better game. We feel this was a great opportunity for us to grow this business and make the college basketball game that we all want, and that the fans want as well.

Pretty sure 2k canceled their game for this year and EA does not have the rights. Weird article....

Haha. I retract my statement above

I was under the same impression as you were. So is this agreement for just this year? 2k can come back and get the rights again right? If that is true, then I think the "EA exclusive rights deal" is really not the proper way to put it.

BINGO!!! You won the smart guy award of the day!

This is something die-hard fans can't get through their skulls. 2k closed that down, they are no more in the College Basketball division and it was all their choice.

(Common Sense would tell them, no one pushed them away they quit! Meaning why in the world would they consider making another one, when they walked away on their own free will)

Series is dead, thanks to Take-Two!!!! Had nothing to do with EA!

Re: EGM Review makes no sense.

The problem about all these reviews are the same. The way those guys look at sport games is ''casual". Yes animations, graphics, stability, sound etc. all are important. But I think at least 1/3 sports games fans are in for realism/simulation. Speaking for bball games, we all care about FG%, off ball turnovers, offensive rebounds and all other stats. Only decent reviews for this kind of players are coming from Sports Gaming communities.

Re: EGM Review makes no sense.

EA's exclusive deal came after the fact (I think that was in October) and had nothing to do with 2K leaving the college basketball genre. But there is an exclusive deal in place now.

Re: EGM Review makes no sense.

I don't understand these exclusive deals. Why would the College licensing people do this? Wouldn't it be better to leave it open in case another company wanted to start a game for the WI or something?

I would love to see the business behind these exclusive deals because somewhere the potential profits don't seem like they would be much for EA to justify a purchase of an exclusive license (if the exclusive license did in fact cost more than the previous non exclusive license).

Anyway I am sick of all this exclusive stuff. FRom CD's to Cable packages everything is exclusive....consumer options limited.
