Finest Football Game Made To Date

As some know my history with soccer games or games in general, I've come from years of games that don't have the complete package. Or games that are really good but could be better.

I think the finest soccer game I played prior to FIFA 10 was WE 9:I. That game had everything except for real leagues and you had to do some really creative things to get real teams and players. Gameplay at the time keep every match fresh, except for trying to set-up the the higher percentage ways to score.

Fast-foward to FIFA 10. I don't think it's a stretch to call this one of the better sports games made of all time. For me it's right up there with High Heat, MVP, Super Tecmo Bowl, WE9:I and Football Manager. (I didn't like NFL 2k5).

The thing that I love about FIFA is that it offers the thing in sports that is so necessary, ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN. From weird bounces, good teams losing, bad teams getting crushed, losing when the opposition only takes 4 SOGs and not being able to put it into the onion bag in 20 shots.

Just speaking about this game, as PES may handle this part better, is players feel different. If I'm up in the game, I'll take off players like Wright-Phillips. Or if it's late in the game, I may play route-1 to John Carew. A player like Rooney is deadly from anywhere in the pitch. Big strong CBs can really control the defensive game and get you our of a lot of jams.

There are some things which can be improved like...
-more player dribbling
-less trying to shoulder tackled forcing more 1-on-1 interactions.
-GKs slightly too good.
-MM problems

But on the whole FIFA reminds me of MVP 05. It was fun. It was realistic. It wasn't perfect but it was random enough that you could come back game after game and get a new experience. FIFA delivers on that.

Very good game for sure, I'm playing it all the time. But I am PO'd they left the stupid momentum stuff in the game yet again... where the CPU starts the game playing like a team of supermen, after which they revert back to normal for the second half. Until the developers get rid of that bit of arcade programming, the game will never be a true sim of the sport. Speaking of which, the CPU is simply too charge-up-the-field aggressive, even with tactics edited. Again, way too arcade, and in no way representative of actual football.

It's a decent game yes, but it still has the same old problems of past years. Stupid AI, the game doesn't have good pace (CPU) if you get tackled you wind up 10 yards from the ball, etc.. I give the game a solid 7 out of 10.

Sorry but if you control the AI, you'll see just how solid they are. If you play the game like WE then yes they all play the same.

The game is fun playing online or in person with a friend who plays
a sensible game of soccer. However the constant 'forward push' of
the AI makes the game, at least for me, not worth the immediate
full-pop purchase price that it is today. Maybe when the price drops
$20-$30 dollars? Still to this day I find the AI in Pro Evolution (Wii)
much more compelling than FIFA.

Totally agree with the OP, and I think the depth of gameplay and the noticeable differences between players are what make it so intriguing. Star players PLAY like star players, and that helps the game on so many levels: not just with gameplay, obviously, but also with strategy and the attachment you get in Manager Mode to individual players and their quirks, as opposed to just seeing them as a bundle of pixels.

I'm only a moderate soccer fan (would like to become a more knowledgable one), but I know enough to appreciate a good soccer video game. In some ways, I think the game is a perfect mix of realism and arcade-style up-and-down action. Still, regardless of what the A.I. does with the ball, I find that the times when I am most successful are when I'm using multiple teammates and actually putting together a plan of attack. The A.I. might not seem "realistic" to people more knowledgable than me, but they still seem to outsmart me on a fairly routine basis, and I love it!

At least someone keeps it real.

You should probably not post in FIFA forums.

And you should probably not post in PES forums.

But, you did. And no one said anything to you, so...

Plus, what's the problem with what I said? Guy said arcade-style up-and-down action along with realism. Which is right. And he loves the game. So, why the mod act?

What's wrong with people on OS? That vacation is calling me again.

Nothing is wrong with people on OS.

I don't know anybody who likes pessimism. It's fine here and there or when needed, but not in a thread like this when a guy is very pleased and genuinely happy.
