EA Sports FIFA Discussion>What's the rule here?
baa7 10:48 AM 11-03-2009
First off, never saw this in FIFA before this year... My goalie has the ball in his hands, inside his box, and goes to kick it upfield. A CPU player suddenly runs at my goalie and bumps him as he kicks the ball; the ball hits the CPU player and drops to the ground; the CPU player taps the ball into my open net!

That happened a few days ago. A few minutes ago I was playing a game, and once again as my goalie is about to kick the ball, a CPU player runs up and bumps my goalie as he's in his kicking motion. So this sort of thing is illegal, right? That's what I was taught in grade school.

Another rule question: I kick the ball, it hits a CPU player and bounces out of bounds, and the CPU player gets to throw the ball back in. Yet many times the CPU takes a shot at my goal, it hits my defender and bounces OB, but the CPU gets a corner. What's up with that? [Reply]

First one should be a yellow card for the defender, but the game doesn't recognixe it. You're not allowed to interfere with the keeper as they distribute the ball. Second one should go to the possession of whoever did not touch the ball last, no matter how it happens [Reply]

I thought the first one was a foul, and is obviously a bug this year. But regarding the second: the way the game at times awards the ball, I though maybe there had been some recent rule change. It seems if I bounce the ball off a CPU player and it goes OB, the CPU almost always get the throw. I was wondering if I'm losing the ball in those situations because it's ruled an unintentional touch on the CPU's part... something like that. [Reply]

I had a situation last night where my keeper clearly gathers the ball in his hands outside the 18 yard box. He stands up runs back into his box and kicks the ball up field. No whistle, nothing. [Reply]

Same thing happened to me twice. The second time it cost me the game as I lost 3-2. :-) [Reply]

Happened to me once. It will never happen again because I make sure there is no one near my keeper when I kick it. In my experience, the CPU defenders will not just hang around your keeper if you just hold the ball and move away from them. [Reply]

There was a recent significant example of the goalie interference issue in real life during 2006 WCQ, when Bahrain played T&T. A Bahraini player knocked the ball from the goalie just as he was about to punt it from his hands, but the resulting Bahrain goal was correctly disallowed. Of course in this case it was intentional by the Bahrain player, in FIFA 10 its accidental simply because the CPU player just runs back to his position on a predefined route, but it should really be a foul (and a yellow card if intentional).

As for the second issue, there seems to be alot of throw in decisions that go in favour of the team i didn't expect to get it, but they result when either a) there's a collision between opposing players near the sideline, causing the ball to go out, but its difficult to tell off who, or b) a slide tackle near the sideline causes the ball to go out and the tackler's team get possession, arguably because the ball ricocheted off the original ball carrier before going it. Alternatively, its quite possible EA have tried to convey incorrect decisions too (another example: there have been quite a few dodgy offside decisions for/against me in FIFA 10, which could go either way in real life).

However, i haven't seen anything like you mentioned in your example for the second concern. Any blatantly clear decisions have gone to the correct team. There is no excpetion for "unintentional touch" when it come to restarting the play from out of bounds in any situation as far as i'm aware...

Are you sure it didn't hit the Referee? I know he gets in the way a fair bit lol, mostly in and around the centre circle though. [Reply]

Not exactly the same, but my GK got away with this lol:

The hurdle over the prone opponent and the running out of the box and back were all automatically performed, i just controlled the throw. [Reply]

That's not what I'm seeing. It happened again this afternoon. As my goalie gathered up the ball, the CPU player ran over to him and stood behind him and off to the side. Then as my goalie went into his punt animation, the CPU player charged my goalie as if he were attempting to knock the ball away. I kid you not. [Reply]

Two more new and weird goalie calls today.

CPU player shoots, my goalie stops it, ball bounces to my defender who takes 2-3 steps while dribbling, after which my goalie reaches out, grabs the ball and holds on to it. My goalie can't touch the ball after I've been dribbling it, correct?

CPU player outside his team's box jumps up for a header. The ball bounces back towards his keeper who pounces on it. Martin Tyler shrieks and breathlessly praises the CPU goalie for making a fine save. [Reply]
