EA Sports FIFA Discussion>How do you keep headers down??
dunlopp9987 05:21 PM 10-28-2009
I continue to get the ball in a good spot to head it in when I'm kicking a corner, but every time I shoot with the header, it always sails over the goal. I understand this happens in real life, but it's getting a little absurd now. Any idea on how to keep the header DOWN? [Reply]

It's definitely tough to do and I haven't found any sure-fire way but it seems to heavily depend on timing and the attributes of the person defending you.

If you've got a big man in the middle with good jumping and heading ability then you should be able to do it but you've got to time it right. Too early and it will go low, too late and it will sail on you.

But again, I *think* it also depends on the pressure and the abilities of the guy defending you as well. [Reply]

I cant ever get into position to head in a goal. The defender always manages to get in front of my player. [Reply]

Sometimes I think in FIFA 10 the CPU is far more accurate and effective with the headers. I've given up a few goals where the CPU chipped a "cheeky lob" inside the box, that was headed into the net. I have scored some goals on headers, but it's advantage CPU. [Reply]

Try to use the RS to head the ball, use it in relation to where you want to head it. I'm having a lot more success playing with the RS, I had none using the LS. [Reply]

I tried a few corners, I'm getting pretty acurate using RS and either th A or Y button. Obviously it helps to have some height, with players Toni, Zltan and Anelka but I'm finding my defenders ramming home some balls to the back of the net pretty frequently too. [Reply]

so you would flick RS then press the shoot button? or just flick the RS like you were doing a knock on? [Reply]

Hold the RS in the direction you want the header to go and then hit the shoot button without releasing the RS. I'm usually holding it down towards one of the corners. If you move the RS to the 3 or 9 o'clock position it will most likely go over the crossbar. [Reply]

Even if you use the stick to direct the header, you MUST have good timing to even have a chance of heading the ball on target. Players with better heading attributes give you more of a "window" with which you have to time your jumps, but the key to scoring in the air, is to time your jump so you hit the ball at the top of your jump. Play around with Zigic, Toni, Crouch, and co. and see what happens when you're early, when you're late, and when you time it just right. Once you get timing of headers down, these players can almost become cheap to play with, with the new crossing system and velocity of the crosses and the players ability to slot home almost every ball near them, in part because they win 90% of the headers.
