Totally agreed. I have to think about it all the time. You get so used to the CPU playing so aggressively, not to mention the online all out attack philosophy, that it becomes your mentality as well. Run,run, run. I sarted out playing '10 that way and had all my guys gassed by the 60th minute. And I had forgot to boost my trainer, so it cost me dearly in my early season. Now I play a much smaller, controlled quick passing game. Use skills and quick short passes to create my chances. And if I'm getting desperate, the uber-powerful tackle the clearing defender for the 1 on1. But I do pick up a lot of fouls that way!

So based on your experience alone you're calling it a myth when others here have clearly stated otherwise as well? Maybe you weren't happy with how the game played, but I'd hardly classify that as a "myth."

I'm not talking about for the other teams. I'm talking about for YOUR team. The glorious thing about FIFA is that most of the teams play differently (more will once the update comes), even when user controlled. I can roll over CPU a fair amount of the time with Chelsea because I know that team inside and out. I know who's strong on the ball, who the best strikers are, where to maximize players in terms of placement in the formation.

Contrast that with the first few games I played with Lyon and I got creamed. Why? Because I didn't know the team. I learned the tactics, created some that worked better for my style of play and messed around.

I'd suggest finding a team you like and playing a lot of matches with that team. Learn them inside and out. That will also help you learn the ins and outs of the gameplay. If you're getting outshot 32-1, you're struggling. That shouldn't be happening on ANY difficulty, with any team. Period. Certainly not with the somewhat balanced teams you were playing with.

What really killed me is that my CPU defenders refused to mark anybody in the box on corners. Balls were allowed to hit the ground and the CPU attackers are amazingly poised despite the chaos
Just for the heck of it, I tried this matchup on Legendary tonight to see if I had a similar experience. I won't lie: it was tough. I lost 3-1 and was out-shot 23-8. When the match first started Stuttgart was all over the place - playing like geniuses. The funny thing was their 23 shots came in 2 real flurries. It wasn't a constant pressure, but 2 bursts of offensive chaos. During those moments they felt unstoppable.

I understand where you are coming from with the comments on the challenges. They were like fighter pilots with a target. I didn't have the issues with my defenders not marking people, but their defenders were ruthless.

What's odd is that my experience playing a few games with Chelsea vs. Man Utd were not like this on Legendary. Far more equality on the pitch. That said, I've lowered my preferred difficulty to World Class because it just seems to feel better. You still have to work at things but it doesn't seem forced.

Also, FWIW, I have Live Season 2.0 turned on for all matches. Not sure how much of a difference that makes when it comes to our difficulty level experiment.

Some people see what they want to see....I saw 32:1. But please don't take it as an affront to your game when I sound critical. It is an awesome game and surely the best representation of football to date. However, I don't waste a lot of time online gushing about how great things are....I like to talk about the shortcomings and figure out if it's a function of the game or something I'm doing wrong so I can correct it and have a more enjoyable experience.

Not really taking it as an "affront" to anything. I will continue to enjoy the game either way, but if all people post in here is that the game sucks or that people's observations are myths, there needs to be a balance and a voice for those of us who think the game is amazing. After all, it is an impressions thread. You've got yours, I've got mine.

As my post stated above, I tried the same match you played and saw some similar things, but didn't get out-shot 32-1.

I also stated, after further play and experiments, I've found World Class to be the best difficulty in terms of challenge and teammate intelligence.

Bottom line, FIFA 10 is a HUGE game. With the number of teams, it's entirely possible you see different things than others have just based on the teams you are using. I think my previous post alluded to that as well.

Re: FIFA Soccer 10 Full Game Impressions

When I started playing the game there were times the CPU outshot me like that.

It all comes down to learning how the play defense within the game. Learning to play defense in PES is different than in FIFA. It's like learning how NCAA plays then relearning the little things for Madden.

I think most people are playing the game either as they have been trained from PES or trying to shoulder tackle and press every time they get the ball.

There's a learning curve for defense but it seems that the expectation is there that people should be good at defense upon inserting the game.

Re: FIFA Soccer 10 Full Game Impressions

the shots on goal total does not really bother me but stupid shots bother me

i played inter yesturday they had 14 shots at the half but 1 was on goal, my thing is that they fire it as soon as they get in my 3rd or at the box

the cpu does not calculate that it could keep possesition and get a better shot this is why i cant agree that fifa represents football i have seen countless times players in the box and not fire it away in keeping close control and holding play up

but with editing the cpu on WC can develop a conscience, same for crossing not all players fire it in everytime thats scripted, with heavy editing i am seeing mistakes, bad balls, crosses to the stands, bad first touches

Re: FIFA Soccer 10 Full Game Impressions

I used to give up between 20-30 shots per game last year on WC. The main reason for this was because I was chasing the ball all over the pitch. Every game ended up being a button mashing mess for 90 minutes.

In FIFA 10 it is much easier to play off ball defense. I usually control a defender away from the ball to help my brain dead CBs cover the strikers. This combined with using the second defender press helps keep shot totals for the CPU between 10-15 per game. At times a few more and also few less.

Re: FIFA Soccer 10 Full Game Impressions

(Please...no smart remarks)

It's a shame because I damn near love this game. I am seeing long passes across the field and alot of passing back and so on. I can even live with the route 1 play and constant rush offensively. But what's killing me is that I can get the ball stolen from me like it's nothing. And I can do the same back. It's kills the game for me. A damn shame because the game is growing on me in MM.

Re: FIFA Soccer 10 Full Game Impressions

you cant try to take the ball off them, thats the quickest way to get beaten, and no it has nothing to do with defending like PES,

you have to edit their tactis so they are not so aggressive, so you both can enjoy possesion, if not you will get mauled in a second and the cpu will dribble in circles to keep the ball thats been fifa for the last 3 yrs

you cant rush them you have to pray they make an errant pass or your guys make a play( which never happens) BUT you have to be patient and mash the second defender and hope to intercept one of their perfect passes
