It sounds like I am gonna get that.

But I do feel for all the people expecting more. I know that feeling! I guess I lean more towards a casual player now.

By far my biggest complaint as well. Is this what the so-called new "defensive urgency" is all about? Has it been addressed?

Re: FIFA Soccer 10 Full Game Impressions

i just want to chime in here beacuse i have been trolling UK boards, FIFASOCCERBLOG and OS. i have owned fifa 2010 since Oct 1. i have played numerous game and have started a manager mode (wow, why did that feel like an intro to a self-help group)...

i actually spoke with a reviewer today and we had an interesting dialogue.

... and let me state this, i do genuinely love the game because i enjoy just playing exhibitions. i would buy it for that.

but, bottom line, i think that its fair to say that if you want a manager mode, you may want to wait to buy this game until it is revealed whether they plan to fix some of the issues. there is a lot of speculation that they may be unable to or unwilling. i have no clue... i am not a programmer. i personally think this is an ultimate example of the issue with a 12month life cycle for these games. it really has to do with too many game modes. EA won't change, but 12 months is clearly too little time to get this game together.

let me be clear... i am not knocking RUtter and co... they have done a superb job on the pitch, but the truth is there is a real issue with the MM. i am not one to flame, but they did promise a reworked manager mode... no i am not an idiot that says we sue or get a refund.. buyer be ware, etc and its still a fun game. but, its disappointing.

i just want to emphasize i hate these guys that post and post and post because Auburn Tigers away jersey does not have the proper stipes. but, i do have to say that if manager mode is your thing, i would think twice before buying.

back to my conversation with unidentified reviewer... he/she said that he/she would probably de-rate the game based on the found bugs... that's another issue... lots of reviews seemed like they were rushed out. no, i am not an EA conspiracy theorist... just think there is pressure to get a review out quickly. i just think the reviewers did not get a chance to dive deeply into manager mode. its really hard to see how some reviewers highlight the "emersion" factor in MM if they had actually played it they would have been quite annoyed.

anyway, thats my two cents.

Re: FIFA Soccer 10 Full Game Impressions

Is that what most people get out of FIFA 10 though. Just random exhibition matches against friends on the same console or the CPU?

As I've seen from the demo, and as I've heard from people who have the game, the AI still doesn't take shots when they're supposed to, on the higher difficulty settings they still press like monsters, and it's still too easy (even moreso than 09) to get knocked off the ball with a smaller midfielder instead of turning on a defender quickly and getting the foul. And do the fullbacks still refuse to defend the wings properly allowing the CPU, or anyone for that matter, to go down the wings for (what the CPU always does) a cross into the box?

I mean, sure the game can be fun against people that you know either online or off, but surely you don't pay 60 dollars for a game where you almost HAVE to play against people who REALLY want to play real football to get a good experience because MM and Online are (as usual) untouched (positively at least).

no, thats not right... now with skilled dribbling its great using skill to keep defenders at bay. i am curious who these people are who have the full build told you that. but its widely written about that the more realistic football you play, the better the game is... ie, passing back, build up play, looking ahead to next pass...

but sounds like you have a great situation... no need for you to spend the 60 bucks, you have it figured out.

Thanks for the insight man. I agree completely with your sentiment, but unfortunately I'm someone that was hoping I could spend the majority of my playing time in MM.. Oh well.

I'm so with you there.

Re: FIFA Soccer 10 Full Game Impressions

I have faith that a number of the MM bugs will be fixed. My own gameplay preferences lie with exhibitions and tournaments. I'd rather just play, than worry about salaries and other front office duties. If the action on the pitch is better than FIFA 09 I will feel that I have my money's worth. The only real step backwards this series made in terms of gameplay was FIFA 08. It's made progress in every year other than 08 in my opinion. The old criticism of FIFA being arcade-like and eye candy, lacking the quality, life-like gameplay of WE/PES is no longer valid. If fans of MM are upset, I hope they can be given a better experience.

As far as rethinking or re-scoring a review, I think just as games seem rushed, reviews seem rushed, too. We start off with a First Impressions thread, but a journalist begins with a review. We all either love, hate or feel indifferent about a game when we play it the first few days. Then we hit a crossroads. The bugs multiply, or the gameplay seems too unmanageable, or there is something not quite right about the game. We may put the game away until it's patched, or move onto something else. We may return to that game. Or we may just sell it, and rid ourselves of it altogether. Need For Speed: Shift is a game I was impressed with in the beginning, got angry about the handling, put it away, then played it again a few days ago, and like it again. A reviewer, by comparison, has a deadline. I was surprised by Gamespot's low review of NFSS, but after my own extended experience with the game, I realize maybe that reviewer wasn't far off.

FIFA 10 benefits from a huge fan base, massive marketing, and an aura that approaches or maybe even eclipses the Madden series. The problem is these games are only as good as the patches that follow. NCAA Football 10 has been patched a couple of times and still doesn't seem quite right. If that FIFA 10 MM patch is issued by the week of October 20 when I get the game here in Chicago, and there aren't any other glaring bugs that go untouched, I will be happy.

You talkin' about a quick turn when the guy lunges in or the typical ice-skating animation where your guy slides around the pitch and then flies out of the skilled dribbling like a slingshot.

Have a look at FIFAsoccerblog.com and Evo-web.co.uk for the people that all have the game and have these issues.

You still didn't really address the issues about the terrible MM and the fact that nobody really buys FIFA to ONLY play exhibition matches. Perhaps if you play with assisted passing on amateur you can keep the ball but sliding around the pitch after sprinting down the field isn't really skilled dribbling. It just looks weird.

You haven't seen issues with the fullbacks never defending the wings? The CPU recovering far too quickly and running you down? Long shots being pretty much broken thanks to the patch that (whether you know this or not) was implemented to fix some finesse shot glitch? People aren't making this up but somehow you have none of these issues. I find that difficult to believe.

And the EA FIFA boards is the wrong place to find any useful information normally. The two sites I've posted are ususally rife with constructive, objective criticism of the game from guys that live and breath soccer.

I'll definitely still check it out, but if they haven't fixed the cheap AI and the lack of fatigue, and the endless pressure (which online they certainly haven't fixed) then we're just back to the same old terrible AI which is confirmed to not want to shoot the ball ever for some reason. The CPU kicks you all around the pitch with no consequence and the slightest touch from you is a foul on the edge of the box normally where FKs are converted at a very high rate.

I mean, perhaps you're still riding the hype train that was FIFA 10s marketing but please check out those sites that I've listed. To be honest it sounds like you're just lying to yourself a bit about the games issues but I suppose we'll hear some complaints in a few months. Maybe sooner. Either that or a sim isn't what you're looking for...

Seriously though, check out those sites if you want some less biased fanboyish opinions.

whats your problem? did you read my previous post... said manager mode is broken, but i still like to play the game on exhibition. just offering my two cents on how the game stands now... its an opinion, man. that opinion was that MM is broken and i am not 100% sure they can/will patch. my only goal was to let the US buyers here know some broad first hand impression.

i remember you from previous posts back and forth...you are looking for a true sim. i get it. i do not think this game is a true sim and i do not know any football game that has been a true sim.

one of the highlights for this game for me is the use of skilled players such as arshavin and messi. yes, if you get too close they will knock you of the ball... but with skilled dribbling and 360 controlling, those pinpointed exact moves are now possible. and i have gotten more fouls off of it. but once again its not a true sim... i was at the CL olympicos match last week and the quick turn that arshavin performed in the first half... i know what you mean. i have not seen that yet, the precise immediately change - like a swivel... but i have not seen anyone really who can do it like arshavin.

and on the pressure issue... i know what you mean... and it is slightly better. there is a different level of pressure depending on which third you play in... there thats for you...

what do you base the comments that i am lying to myself and a fan boy, mate? and that ohoohoo... you will show me because before you know it i will be on here highlighting some of the criticisms you have already found through your trolling of forums. and then you make a comment about what level of passing i use? seriously?

you are looking for a true football sim... and i have to say it... what make you the expert mate? your years of american high school football? have you even been to old trafford? (no... typical).... how many premier leagues you go to each month (yea not EVER, which is prob zero, but each month)... i mean are there in person to actually experience the game live and the atmosphere. what makes you the expert on sim football? please keep enlighten me on how you an expert in footie from your tele and you high school football experience. what a joke...

sorry to the rest, but the guy went off on me for no reason...
