Stick a fork in me...I am done.

I knew FIFA 09 has lots of flaws, but I started a Borrussia Dortmund MM.

I was living with the 'players on both clubs steal the ball half the game' stuff. I lived with the super defenders with their mind reading on passes. I lived with the super goalkeepers blocking easy breakaways and balls hitting the post.

But that's it. I'm done. I'm up 3-0 with Dortmund over Frankfurt. Professional.

I expected the CPU to go full blast. I changed to a defensive formation to protect my lead. CPU gets a goal. Cool. Passed the 78th minute. Still in control. CPU is flying. Now, every loose ball goes to them. They pass the ball into toward their goal in which I could easily steal, but my man all of a sudden gets frightened of the ball and backs away from the pass. Easy goal for the CPU. 3-2 now.

And then it happens. CPU runs down the flank and kicks in a through ball. I press Y to get the goallie to intercept. LOL. Goalkeeper doesn't budge. Ball passes right in front of the bastard right to the feet of my defender.

You guessed it. Pressing Y skipped over working for my goalkeeper...but works PERFECTLY FINE FOR MY DEFENDER.

Right into the back of the goal. 3-3. I throw my controller hard.

A minute later, CPU crosses one in. Goalkeeper doesn't move again. My defender in front of the CPU player jumps first. Ball somehow miraculously misses his head. CPU heads it in. 4-3 CPU.

Threw the controller hard again, cracking it open. Proceeded to cuss aloud for 4 minutes straight.

4 goals in the span of literally 5 minutes.

I'm done.

Re: Stick a fork in me...I am done.

I feel your pain on this. I won't get into any gory details, but this type of game/soul-stealing defeat has become far too common and I'm close to giving this one up too.

I love this game, so I'll probably keep playing it, but it couldn't get more frustrating. I think the next step for me is to invest the 40 hours (or whatever) and do what one of the guys here (can't remember his name) has done and knock down every single player's acceleration and sprint speed ratings by 15. I've tried it in a few exhibition matches and it does seem to make a difference in the CPUs ability to charge up the pitch and score at will, as well their ability to get on my players in an instant and steal the ball.

I know it's far from a perfect solution because of the time it would take to edit all the players, but I really want to keep playing this game without killing any contollers.

The danger of protecting your lead in this way. I mean change to a defensive formation and so on. It's risky because you invite the CPU and let him have more space on the pitch when you change to this defensive play.

If I have the big lead I always keep up the play and try to play in the same way like 0-0 game.
The best defence is a great attacking!

Actually, you need to lower those ratings by 50% to see any real difference in the gameplay. And if you lower CPU ball control and pass ratings by 50%, the ball doesn't become magnet sticking to their feet all the time, plus you'll see some CPU passes go astray and what not.

Yeah, but that doesn't solve the obvious cheating of the CPU that happens upon MY players.

What difficulty are you playing at?

On a side note, this information should be provided in any post complaining about the AI or when asking for tips etc. If you're getting your @ss handed to you on "legendary" I have no comment because I haven't even attempted that level yet.

He's playing on professional.

I'm glad I haven't seen this. I honestly think changing to a "defensive" formation was counter-productive to what you are trying to achieve. To be honest, those setups do more harm than good. I just keep it on balanced and control the tempo myself.

Yeah, this is getting ridiculous now.

How about changing-up your formation? 5 in the back can help shore-up your defence, and one striker would be all you need. I like to keep dumping the ball when I'm up and trying to hold-on, but what Coccis said about attacking all the time works well, too. Man-marking can help, too.

Will all this stop my defenders from being controlled by the CPU? Will this advice help my goalkeeper move to the ball when I press Y?

Everyone is skimming over this. Or just not reading.

Re: Stick a fork in me...I am done.

No reason to be so testy. We're simply offering you possible solutions. You can shelve the game and it won't really matter to anyone here.

I've seen defenders go brain dead and I've posted as such in my own thread, found here. However, that doesn't excuse giving up that many goals in such a small amount of time. You can fight through it (though you shouldn't have to) and minimize these things impacting your game.

Again, your actions of switching your "strategy" to Defensive might have contributed to it.
