for PS3 guys... brian is right, but the button to push for us is L2. like he said... just TAP it, every time someone else is challenging for the ball. do it and see how man more times you gain control. as far as the fancy control one touches... i have not gotten there yet. trying the TAP of L@ upon recieving the ball.

i keep saying "game changing" with new hints... its true. there are layers upon layers to the controls here which i have never experienced in gaming.

OK, I am confused. Which button is it for the Xbox version again?

Re: For new Fifa players and guys who want to expand their game...

Tip of the day, straight from the manual, with a little of my own rewording... Hold LB while going up the pitch and the off the ball man will go into the 1-2. While still holding LB, pass the ball using either A or Y. Then press it again to receive the ball back. Using the LB hold has really helped me have a lot more control on my attacks, along with the RT while letting go of the stick. I'm finding that if I use these moves to control pace and then throw in some skills, I can make some more realistic and controlled opportunities. Just be sure to select the right pass as you progress, A for snappy, longer passes and Y for the short thru-ball. X doesn't really work that well with the LB 1-2 run, if you don't let the button go it'll give you a soft lob in traffic that'll end up getting stolen pretty easily. Have fun....

Re: For new Fifa players and guys who want to expand their game...

i want to follow up on brian's advice to TAP L2 before receiving a pass/lob, whatever. first, there has been some confusion on controls, but Brian is saying to TAP the pace control button...

so, i have played about 10 games with this technique... i am not writing to say i continuously have made those amazing berbatov shots. those are few and far between, and oh so worthy of replays to be posted.

instead, i want to talk about how tapping L2 changes the feel of the game...

before i was doing the tap, i was susceptible to challenges all the time, executed too many errant passes, sent one touch shots/crosses in erratic directions, and i could never really execute skill moves at the appropriate time.

now with tapping... basically i am doing everything (listed above) better. i have no idea why... does the CPU lay off more if you are tapping or is the AI just more aware that you have that extra degree of control (i guess both are the same)... my point is, this is a critical thing to have in your playing repretoire [sp].

so, believe me, that every serious player should ALWAYS tap L2 before receiving a ball... it needs to be second habit. just tap it... when it becomes second nature, the game opens up.

btw... i play on world class, but this is not with a "super human" manager mode squad.

This is exactly the thing that has been missing in my game! My style of play is with a lot of short passing and I love to shoot.
But the problem for me has always been my first touch before the big chance appears.

I will apply this tap L2 and I hope this will help me and put me in front of my buddies when we play our big tournaments in the coming months.

I have asked myself many times how my biggest rival always played amazing first touch soccer but now I know.
I think I will beat him now when my problems with first touch is gone.

I have used L2 a lot. But I have never tried tapping it.

Hell yeah! After work I’m going to practice this like a maniac!
Thanks!

Best regards!

Re: For new Fifa players and guys who want to expand their game...

I have now tried the tap of L2 and I can't say that I see any higher control of the ball?

I'm swedish and my english is not 100%. I have to ask if the word tap means something else than quickly press and release a couple of times?

Earlier I have hold L2 pressed like when to do the feints. Can you explain this L2 tap to me again?

You have the right meaning for the word tap. Though sometimes when I'm using this technique it requires more than just repeated taps. Sometimes I have to hold down on L2 longer while I'm working my player into the best position against the defending player. It doesn't always work, but since I started doing this I've been much more successful at winning the ball in these situations.

I have played with the "hold down L2" for some time now. Long before I heard about the "tap thing" from Brian. I don't know if I have'nt got it right yet but the "hold down L2" works better for me.

But I have to pratice more.

keep trying with tap... just pay attention... winning the ball is different from the tap. i am not crazy. also, you get to keep up your pace.

What do you mean with keep up your pace? Higher pace in passing?

Okay. Do you mean that L2 tap is to trap the ball and have nothing to do with winning the ball. Tap makes the first touch better?
Sorry if don't understand. Like I wrote earlier I'm from Sweden and my english is not 100%.

Thank you for trying to explain this to me.
