Re: Project Natal

Heck, if I can learn a few fighting styles on it, I'm game. Other than that, I do everything else I like while out of the house. I can't see any reason to play basketball on it rather than dribbling outside and playing against real people. Maybe it could help improve my shooting form, help my golf swing improve, or actually give me some motivation to play table tennis. It could also be a great connection thing for family who maybe hundreds or thousands of miles away. I just don't know if it'll be as great as it could be because many companies won't put as much into it as they probably could. The creativity might fall short by giving us the same games with different input.

I'd definitely love to try some yoga or pilates with that thing though.

Re: Project Natal

Maybe I'm too stuck in my ways but I don't ever want to play a video game without a controller. The Wii and Natal have absolutely no appeal for me. I hope that a few companies realize that there will always be a large consumer base for games that use controllers. By the way, Peter Molyneux is very, very, very, good at his job... which is hyping up average games/devices to make people think they are the greatest things ever. Fable...? Good game? Yes. Best RPG ever, not even close.

Re: Project Natal

I think what a lot of people are missing, is that video we all saw from E3 is a "concept" demo. It's simply what MS intends it to be.

I don't think it'll come close to what we saw. Especially at a price that most can afford. I've seen all kinds of posts from people saying it's going to be $149....I don't see any way that's a reality. For one, if it even works like the video shows, it's $500 or more. Otherwise, it'll be a cheaply built unit that malfunctions and breaks and doesn't work anything like people expect...kinda like a 360

That being said, I think it's really cool. The possibilities it opens up for all types of gaming and social interaction are limitless. I'll bet that new types of games that we never imagined will come from this....if it actually works that is.

Exactly. I don't mean to belittle Microsoft for trying something out of the box, but listening to podcasts from IGN, Game Informer and all these other industry reps that were in attendance at E3 and it's amazing how they all got sucked into this. This is not even close to being a viable concept. As was the case with the Wii (which was a far, far less ambitious project), I have serious doubts that this camera can do all of the things they would have you believe it does.

And even if it could, why does that mean that I have to like it? People look like morons playing this thing. Like the previous poster said, if gamers were really interested in getting as close to the actual activity as possible, why wouldn't they just go do the real thing? This is kinda like that whole virtual reality obsession in the 1990's all over again.

Because it can be awfully expensive, or impossible even, to do some of the stuff I'm sure they'll come out with.

Re: Project Natal

Natal can work with the 360 controller, and that's what I expect we're going to see most of from 3rd party developers, and there's a ton of stuff you could do with head tracking, voice and facial recognition - things that can enhance an experience, all while your butt is still parked on the coach.

Have you ever tried to decorate your apartment in Fallout 3?

Natal is a great fit for many genres. It would do wonders for point and click 3rd person and first person RPGs. It could really spice up the RTS genre on consoles especially for people that want to relax while they play. You could sit on your *** like a lazy general and control troops with voice commands.

The key to Natal's sucess will be to avoid the cliches of the Wii. So far no good with the tech demos though so I can understand where you are coming from.
