MLB Award Winners For The Month Of August,1905

Friday, September 1st, 1905: Rookie Rapper Reaps NL Honors
A rookie, Del Howard is turning heads around the National League, especially since he just netted August's Rookie of the Month trophy.

The Pittsburgh first baseman batted .277 last month and collected 33 hits, 1 home run, 11 RBIs and 19 runs scored.

This could be the first of many such awards if he continues this torrid hitting, but he's definitely put himself in a good position to claim the Rookie of the Year Award later this year.

For the season, Howard is hitting at a .270 clip with 3 home runs, 31 RBIs and has scored 50 runs. He has 94 hits, 16 walks and a .320 on-base percentage.

Friday, September 1st, 1905: American League Names Rookie of Month
Nig Clarke's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Cleveland catcher has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In August he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .403 with 10 doubles, 1 triple and 1 home run. Clarke also scored 17 times and drove in 12 runs.

So far this season Clarke is batting .285 with 1 home run.

Friday, September 1st, 1905: Phillies Hurler Named NL's Best Starter
Ralph Caldwell hasn't been around the big leagues long enough to know that youngsters shouldn't be winning National League Pitcher of the Month. But when you put up numbers like his, you're going to get some notice.

In August the Philadelphia starter earned a 4-1 mark in 5 starts. He threw 47.1 innings, struck out 29 and compiled a solid 0.76 ERA.

In 1905 thus far, Caldwell has tossed 117.2 innings in 10 starts, fanned 74 batters, walked 28 and put up a 1.30 ERA with 8 wins and 5 losses.

Friday, September 1st, 1905: AL Announces August's Best Starter
August was a very good month for Eddie Plank of the Philadelphia Athletics. He held opposing hitters for a .180 average and took home the American League Pitcher of the Month award.

In 7 starts he claimed a 5-2 record as he put up a 1.36 ERA and struck out 47 in 66 innings.

So far this season Plank has a 16-10 record with a 1.90 ERA.

Friday, September 1st, 1905: Philadelphia's Thomas Top NL Batter in August
Roy Thomas battered National League pitchers all August and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around Major League Baseball long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 31-year-old Thomas told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I may not take the field and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 27 games, Thomas hit .386 with no home runs, 15 RBIs and scored 22 runs.

In 123 games this year Thomas has posted a .303 average and put up these numbers: no home runs, 37 RBIs and 76 runs scored.

Friday, September 1st, 1905: Boston's Freeman Snags August Batting Title
Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 33-year-old Buck Freeman put together a solid offensive month for Boston and was crowned August's top batter in the American League.

He batted .412 with 1 home run, 16 RBIs and 19 runs scored.

Freeman is presently batting .322 with 5 home runs, 53 runs scored and 44 RBIs. His OBP is .380.
