Stunning 9th Inning Triple Play Gives Colts 2-1 Victory
Colt Stadium,Houston Tx.-In a whale of a pitchers duel, the Colt .45's Bob Bruce got the best of the Phillies Chris Short on the strength of a stunning 9th inning triple play which abruptly ended the Phillies rally and the game. With runners on first and second and no outs in the top of the 9th,Adolfo Phillips came to bat looking to knock in the tying run,it didn't happen.Phillips hit a wicked ground ball right at third baseman Frank Malzone who was playing the line to guard against extra bases,Malzone simply stepped on third and gunned the ball to second starting the U5-4-3 triple play.It was a fitting end to a grat game.On a side note,Richie Allen's hitting streak was halted at 16 as he went 0 for 2 with 2 walks.here's the box score

Giants Self Destruct In 10-5 Loss!
Candlestick Park-The SF Giants headed into the 6th inning today with a commanding 5-0 lead and looked well on their way to another dominating win against the Phillies when all of a sudden the Giants forgot how to play baseball. The Phillies scored 10 runs in the top of the sixth, and only 3 of them were earned. The Giants committed 2 errors and walked an astounding 7 batters in one inning all of which spelled doom for the home boys.Phils starter Ray Culp pitched a gutsy 7 innings allowing 9 hits and 5 runs(4 earned) to notch his third victory of the season against 3 defeats. At the plate, firstbaseman Danny Cater was the star of the show going 3 for 5 with 2 RBI and a run scored.Tony Taylor and Johnny Callison also had 2 RBI each. For the Giants,Willie Mays homered again and knocked in two runs and veteran outfielder Duke Snider went 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored. Here's the box score.

Re: 1964(and on)Philadelphia Phillies Historical Simulation-OOTP 8

The Phillies are hanging tough in the early goings in 1964.

Here's something for you.

My friend keeps getting stopped and being asked for his autograph. The reason for this is because he is he looks just like Michael Schmidt, the former All-Star third baseman. He keeps telling the people that he isn't him, but some of them don't believe him.

Re: 1964(and on)Philadelphia Phillies Historical Simulation-OOTP 8

Thats awesome,Mike Schmidt is my favorite athlete of all time.I grew up with those late 70's early 80's Phillies teams. To me that was the best era in Phillies history.

Marichal Dominant In 6-1 Giant Victory
Candlestick Park,SF Ca-Giant starter Juan Marichal gave the Phillies all they could handle today as the Phils fell to the Giants again 6-1.Marichal went 8 innings allowing 9 hits and 1 earned run while striking out 12.Juan improved his record to 6-2 and lowered his ERA to 1.63.At the plate, the Giants were led by Duke Snider who went 3 for 5 with 2 doubles an RBI and 2 runs scored. For Philly, starting pitcher Art Mahaffey had a rough go of it allowing 7 hits and 5 earned runs in just 5 innings of work.As the Phils look to the future, its getting pretty obvious that they may need another starter if they're going to contend for a pennant this year.Their starters ERA is a whopping 4.46,9th in the NL which is nowhere near good enough. The question is,are the Phillies willing to part with young talent in order to bring in a veteran starter or will they sit pat and build for the future?...Here's today's box score.

Short Outduels Koufax!
Dodger Stadium,LA Ca.-In a fiercely contested ballgame, the Phillies behind the brilliance of starting pitcher Chris Short defeated the Dodgers and Sandy Koufax 3-1.This game was all about pitching, and Short was just a little better today. In earning his 4th win of the season,Shorty pitched a complete game while allowing 6 hits and 1 earned run,to go with 12 big strikeouts and 1 walk.Koufax in defeat was awesome as well going the distance and allowing 6 hits and 3 runs(2 earned) while striking out 8 and walking 2.Quietly,Chris Short has become the ace of the Phillies staff with a record of 4-3 a 2.82 ERA and 55 strikeouts in 60.2 innings pitched leading the team in all three categories.Help it seems is on the way,the Phils are in intense negotiations with the Minnesota Twins for the services of starting pitcher Jim Kaat, the deal is on hold right now because Kaat has a minor back injury. He's due to return any day. Here's the box score.
