Re: 1964(and on)Philadelphia Phillies Historical Simulation-OOTP 8

Monday May 11,1964
Cards Explode For 19 Hits,Crush Phillies 9-2
Connie Mack Stadium Phila,Pa-Despite Phils ace Jim Bunning being on the mound, the Cardinals hit the ball all over the park as they routed the slumping Phillies 9-2.Light hitting second baseman Phil Gagliano led the charge going an amazing 5 for 5 with a home run, 3 RBI and a run scored.Bill White also did a ton of damage going 4 for 5 with a home run and 4 RBI.Phils manager Gene Mauch was furious after the game calling his team "soft" and "gutless" as he destroyed the locker room.Richie Allen again was the lone bright spot, going 1 for 4 with a home run and 2 RBI.Allen, who just earned his second straight NL player of the week honor is on a tear of epic proportions.Rich has hit safely in 25 of 26 games this season and is on a 10 game hitting streak. He leads the NL in batting average(.406) hits(41) doubles(10) and RBi(28) he's also 5th in homers(5).In a season that has been up and down at best,Allen has been nothing but up.Here's the box score.

Culp Flirts With No Hitter In Phillies 3-0 Victory
Connie mack Stadium,PhilaPa-Phillies starting pitcher Ray Culp took a no hitter into the 8th inning but was foiled in his bid by Cardinals LF Mike Shannon who hit a bloop single to lead off the inning.Culp gathered himself and finished the game allowing only 2 hits and 1 walk while striking out 6.Phillies slugger Rich Allen was again the star on offense going 2 for 3 with a home run and 2 RBI.For St.Louis, starter Mike Cuellar was awesome in defeat going 7 and 2/3 and allowing only 4 hits and 3 runs(2 earned). He also struck out 6.The Phillies all of a sudden have caught fire and won 3 in a row improving their record to 15-14,five and a half games behind the Reds. They now head to Houston for a four game set with the Colt .45's.Here's the box score.
