Re: 1964(and on)Philadelphia Phillies Historical Simulation-OOTP 8

Sunday May 3,1964
Heartbreak City!
County Stadium,Milwaukee Wisc.-In a season this long, you see just about everything. You just hope you don't see to many of these. The Phils jumped out to an early 4-0 lead after 3 and seemed on their way to the sweep when in the 4th,Milwaukee came roaring back to tie the score. It would stay tied at four when in the bottom of the 8th an exhausted John Boozer allowed the first 3 Braves on base before getting the hook.Johnny Klippenstein then entered and got the next two batters to pop out and then strike out.Just when you thought he would get out of it,JK walked Mike De la Hoz bringing in the eventual winning run.Braves closer Bobby Tiefenauer would shut the door in the 9th preserving the Braves 5-4 victory. Here's the box score.

Re: 1964(and on)Philadelphia Phillies Historical Simulation-OOTP 8

Wednesday May 6,1964
Cater-Riffic!
Connie Mack Stadium,Phila.Pa-Phils first baseman Danny Cater slammed a dramatic walk off 2 run home run in the bottom of the ninth off of Braves closer Bobby Tiefenauer to give the Phillies a stunning come from behind 6-5 victory.Besides Cater,Phils slugger Rich Allen had another tremendous game going 3 for 5 with a home run 2 RBI and 2 runs scored,Allen has now hit safely in 9 of his last 10 games. Not all the news was good though,Phillies right fielder Johnny Callison strained his abdominal muscles while running the bases and will be out for up to 2 weeks. He's now the third Phillies starter who's out of the lineup."We just have to hang in there till we get these guys back" said Phils GM John Gindville. The Phillies are once again over .500 with a record of 11-10,4 games behind first place Cincinnati. Here's today's box score.

Re: 1964(and on)Philadelphia Phillies Historical Simulation-OOTP 8

Friday May 8,1964
Cincinnati Nips Phillies,3-2
Connie Mack Stadium,Phila Pa.-With Rich Allen on the bench for a much needed day off,the Phils knew they would have to win with pitching, they came up just short.Phils starter John Boozer did his job going 6 and two thirds and allowing 5 hits and 2 runs while striking out 5,he also hit a two run triple in the 2nd. But reliever Dennis Bennett who entered in the 7th,couldn't hold the lead as Vada Pinson roped a two out two run double giving the Reds the lead for good and giving Bennett a loss and a blown save.On the hill for the Reds,Sammy Ellis earned the victory by going 7 and a third and allowing 5 hits and 2 runs while fanning 5 and walking 4,he also hit a solo home run in the 5th furthering his cause.Billy McCool earned his first save going one and two thirds and allowing only a hit.Vada Pinson ended the day 3 for 4 with those 2 big RBI.Here's the box score.

Re: 1964(and on)Philadelphia Phillies Historical Simulation-OOTP 8

Phillies Attempt To Better Outfield Situation
Philadelphia,Pa.-The Phillies made a couple of moves today to try and compensate for the injuries to two thirds of their outfield.First off,Young Johnny Briggs was sent down and Adolfo Phillips brought up,Phillips is a much better fielder than Briggs which is why the move was made.Secondly, the Phillies traded first baseman John Herrnstein to the Chicago White Sox for 22 year old outfielder Ken Berry, another excellent fielder who can play left or center.
