Re: 1964(and on)Philadelphia Phillies Historical Simulation-OOTP 8

Sunday April 26,1964
Tired And Battered,Phils Fall To Cubs
Connie Mack Stadium,Phila.Pa-After a long and painful week,Phils manager Gene Mauch decided to rest a couple of starters and the results were predictable,a 7-1 Chicago victory.Despite a valiant effort by Chris Short,it was obvious that Philadelphia was willing to give one up in orded to get a few players some much needed rest.Cubs pitcher Dick Ellsworth took full advantage of the Phils muted lineup going 9 strong innings and allowing 6 hits and 1 run while striking out 8.Lou Brock went 3 for 4 with 2 RBI to pace the Cubbies offense. Here's the box score.

Jim Maloney Stifles Phillies
Crosley Field,Cincinnati,Oh-Reds starting pitcher Jim Maloney(3-0)proved why he is one of the top pitchers in the league as he baffled the Phillies all night on his way to a complete game 7 hit 1 run ballgame. He also struck out 9 Phillie batters while walking only 3.In the Reds 7-1 victory, they used the longball to get to Phils starter John Boozer as well as some timely hitting. The Phillies right now look ragged and seem to be starting to spiral downward. On the brightside, its still early and there's plenty of time to right the ship. Here's the box score.

Re: 1964(and on)Philadelphia Phillies Historical Simulation-OOTP 8

Wednesday April 29,1964
5 Run 6th Propels Reds Past Phillies
Crosley Field,Cincinnati,Oh-One bad inning, one bad bounce, one bad play. When things are going wrong it seems that these little thing are always the ones that bite you, this is what the Phils are going through right now.Phils starter Ray Culp was cruising along through five innings, the Phils had a 3-0 lead and Cincinnati was struggling. Then BOOM!,single, walk, walk, double, home run in succession.Give the Phils credit though, they tried to battle back, the teams traded runs in the 7th and then the Phils scored again in the 8th making it 6-5.But in the 9th,the Phillies stranded the tying run on third base sending the Phils to their third straight defeat. For Cincinnati,Frank Robinson went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI and Deron Johnson hit a 3 run homer. For the Phils,Richie Allen hit his first homer of the season in a 3 for 4 1 RBI day. Here's the box score.

Re: 1964(and on)Philadelphia Phillies Historical Simulation-OOTP 8

Thursday April 30,1964
Mahaffey Gives Phils Much Needed Victory
Crosley Field Cincinnati,Oh.-At one time Art Mahaffey was penciled in to be the ace of the Phils staff,he earned 19 victories in 1962 and even tied the single game strikeout record with a 17 K performance against Chicago in 1961 but arm troubles have curtailed his career a bit and the Phils are not sure what he has left.Well today he showed flashes of his former brilliance in the Phils 7-3 victory as he went 6 strong innings allowing just 2 hits and 1 run earning his 2nd victory of the season.Tony Gonzalez and Richie Allen each went 2 for 5 with 2 RBI pacing the Phillie offense. For the Reds, starter Joey Jay lost his third decision allowing 9 hits and 4 earned runs in 7 innings of work,Gordy Coleman had 2 RBI offensively. Here's the box score.
