Re: 1964(and on)Philadelphia Phillies Historical Simulation-OOTP 8

1964 World Series

Phillies Short Pitches And Hits As Phils Win 4-3
Connie Mack Stadium,Phila.Pa.-In a scintillating first game of the fall classic, the Philadelphia Phillies were just good enough to take down the Boston Red Sox in game one,4-3.Phillies starter Chris Short struggled a bit with his control going 5 and a third while allowing 7 hits,5 walks and 2 earned runs.Short's bat though more than made up for his sub par pitching.Chris went 2 for 2 with a double and a 3 run home run in the 2nd inning that got the Phils rolling.Down 3-0 in the top of the 3rd,Felix Mantilla's sac fly closed the gap to 3-1 after 3.The Phils made it 4-1 in the 5th on a Dick Allen base on balls with the bases loaded,a terrible mistake that would come back to haunt the Red Sox.In the 6th,Carl Yastrzemski's RBI double again brought Boston to within 2 at 4-2.The score would stay the same until the 9th,when rookie sensation Tony Conigliaro led off the inning with a monster home run bringing Boston to within 4-3 with no outs.Thats all Boston would get though as Phils closer Jack Baldschun closed out the game from there giving the Phils game one,4-3. Here's the box score.

Re: 1964(and on)Philadelphia Phillies Historical Simulation-OOTP 8

1964 World Series

Callison Nails Tying Run At Plate In 9th As Phils Go Up 2-0

Connie Mack Stadium,Phila.Pa.-In another fantastic game, the Phillies and Red Sox came down to the wire again but just like last game, the Sox came up just short. The Phillies again jumped on top early scoring 3 runs in the first inning giving starter Jim Bunning a comfortable lead to work with.Bunning took full advantage going 8 strong innings and leaving with a 4-1 lead heading into the 9th.In the 9th though, the Sox mounted a furious comeback but were stopped short by Johnny Callison who threw out the tying run at the plate giving the Phillies another 4-3 victory. The teams will now head to Boston for the next 3 games in the series.
