Cal Mclish Has His Revenge!
Connie Mack Stadium,Phila.Pa-Cal Mclish, angry at being traded from Philadelphia to New York during spring training had his revenge today,as he led the NY Mets to 3-0 shutout victory against his old mates in dominating fashion.Mclish went the distance while allowing only 5 hits and striking out 7 in the victory.Jim Bunning was good in defeat, allowing 7 hits and 3 earned runs in 8 innings of work. The Mets offense was paced by the long ball as Larry Burright and Larry Elliot hit homers for the Metropolitans.Phils slugger Johnny Callison had a tough day today striking out three times. Here's the box score.

Phils Destroy Cubs Despite Unstoppable Williams
Wrigley Field,Chicago,Ill-The Phillies marched into the Windy City today and drubbed the hometown Cubs 14-6 despite the exploits of Cubs star Billy Williams who went 5 for 5 with 2 home runs and 5 Rbi's.Although the Phils and starter Art Mahaffey couldn't stop Williams, they held the rest of the Cub lineup in check, something no Cub pitcher could do as the Phils pounded out 16 hits en route to today's victory. Here's the box score.

Re: 1964(and on)Philadelphia Phillies Historical Simulation-OOTP 8

Sunday April 19,1964

Poor Defense Spoils Solid Performance By Bunning
Wrigley Field,Chicago-In the final game of this three game set,it was ace vs. ace as the Phils Jim Bunning faced off against the Cubs Larry Jackson.Although both pitchers pitched well,Bunning was hurt by poor defense which has plagued the Phils so far in this young season."There's just too many balls falling in that shouldn't be,and if things don't change, the personnel will!" commented Phils skipper Gene Mauch. Most of the ire was directed at veteran left fielder Wes Covington who time and again could not get to seemingly playable balls.Stay Tuned...As far as the game goes, the Phillies were kept off balance all day by Jackson who went 8 and a third while allowing 9 hits and 1 earned run.He also struck out 4 in the 4 to 1 victory.Second baseman Ron Campbell broke the game open in the 7th when with two outs and two on he hit a clutch single up the middle scoring both runners turning a 2-1 game to a 4-1 game and effectively ending the Phillies chances.Bunning was good again in defeat, going 8 full while allowing 8 hits 4 runs and striking out 8 Cub batters.Wes Covington knocked in the Phils only run. Here's the box score.
