Re: 1964(and on)Philadelphia Phillies Historical Simulation-OOTP 8

I can't understand how the bosox are continuing to contend. The team was a cellar dwellar until the "Impossible Dream".

How could you have traded Tony Taylor for a schmuck like Bobby Richardson? Was Richardson that much better than Taylor?

It was a terrible trade on my part I think.Offensively,Taylor was a little better but defensively Richardson was much better as far as the game's ratings go.So I was willing to give up a little offense so that my middle of the diamond defense was great. The problem though is that while Taylor played into the early 70's Richardson retired in 1967.(I found that out after the trade)So I'll chalk this up as a short term gain long term loss.As far as Boston goes, they've defininely been the surprise of the season.Yaz,Conigliaro and Dick Stuart have been carrying them all season. Also how about them Yankees in the second division(hehehe)

Saturday August 1,1964
All Hail Sievers!
Connie Mack Stadium,Phila.Pa.-In a thrilling battle of wills, the Phillies were just able to nip the Dodgers 4-3 on a Roy Sievers walk off single in the bottom of the 11th.After allowing the Phils to build a 3-0 lead after 5,the Dodgers slowly but surely creeped back and finally tied the game in the top of the 9th with two outs on a Bart Shirley double to right sending the game to extra innings. While neither team did anything in the 10th,The Dodgers loaded the bases in the 11th but couldn't get a run off of Jack Baldschun giving the Phils new life.Cookie Rojas led off the bottom of the 11th with a rollicking triple to right and right away, the Phils were in business. The Dodgers walked pinch hitter Bobby Richardson bringing up LF Ken Berry who popped out to the catcher.Gene Alley then grounded hard to shortstop Maury Wills who alertly threw home nailing Rojas. With two outs and runners on first and second,Roy Sievers stepped to the plate. On the first pitch, the Phils pulled off a double steal that seemed to stun the bunch from LA and gave the Phils two runners in scoring position with 2 outs.Sievers than took a 2-2 fastball and laced it up the middle giving the Phillies the win! Here's the box score.

Short Defeats Drysdale To Capture 14th Victory!
Connie Mack Stadium,Phila.Pa.-The LA Dodgers can't wait to get out of Philadelphia, heading into today's game the Phils have beaten LA 9 out of the 10 times the teams have played, today would be no different. The Phils used a big 4th inning in which they scored all 3 of their runs on 4 hits to defeat LA for the 10th time this season,3-1.The game as expected was all pitching with Chris Short again coming up huge against a stud pitcher.Short went 8 and a third allowing allowing 6 hits and 1 earned run while striking out 7.His counterpart Don Drysdale also pitched well going 8 full allowing 7 hits and 3 earned runs.Inexplicably though,Drysdale had two wild pitches in the fourth inning that directly led to 2 of Philly's 3 runs. The teams will finish off the series with a rare Monday game tomorrow. Here's the box score.

Good going in sweeping the Dodgers.

The Reds seem to be hot as well as of late.

As for me, I'm waiting for the annual Boston collapse in August.

Thanks,I'm really getting into this.I play a lot of bottom feeders this month so I need to take advantage of it because September is brutal.
