Gimme Back My Bullets!
Colt Stadium Houston,Tx.-"Gimme Back My Bullets",thats what the Houston Colt .45's are saying to Phillies starting pitcher Claude Osteen who cut through the Houston lineup like a hot knife through butter in the Phils 7-1 victory.Osteen went 8+ allowing a mere 3 hits and 1 unearned run winning his 4th game in 5 starts since coming over from the AL.The game couldn't have started out better for Philadelphia who got a lead off home run by Tony Gonzalez to start off the game followed by 3 more singles in the inning giving the Phils a 3-0 lead after 1.the Phils would add a run in the third with Danny Cater's 2nd RBI single of the game scoring Frank Thomas. With Osteen in full command on the mound,he showed off his stick skills in the 6th when with 2 men on,he roped a triple down the right field line increasing the Phils lead to 6-0 and then finally 7-0 when Tony G grounded out to score Osteen. The Colts would finally get on the board in the 9th courtesy of a Frank Malzone ground out which scored Vic Power who reached on an error to start the inning. Here's the box score.

Re: 1964(and on)Philadelphia Phillies Historical Simulation-OOTP 8

Tuesday June 30,1964
Shootin' Blanks!
Colt Stadium,Houston Tx.-The Phillies ended the month of June with a "bang" as John Tsitouris and Johnny Klippstein combined to throw a 4 hit shutout today as the Philadelphia express flattened another victim 3-0.The Phils can do no wrong right now as they head into the last two series before the all star break with an impressive 44 and 30 record.Danny Cater provided the offensive spark going 2 for 4 with 2 crucial RBI and pitcher John Tsitouris also got in on the act with a surprising solo home run.For Cater is was a fitting end to a brilliant month that Garnered him his second consecutive rookie of the month award. The Phillies will end the first half on the west coast with a 2 game series with the Dodgers followed by a 3 game set with the Mays-less Giants. Here's the box score.

Re: 1964(and on)Philadelphia Phillies Historical Simulation-OOTP 8

Thursday July 2,1964
Top Of The World Ma!
Dodger Stadium,LA CA.-After 3 long months, the Phillies have finally worked their way to the top of the standings thanks to a hard fought 4-3 victory over Sandy Koufax and the Dodgers. The Dodgers drew first blood in the bottom of the 1st when with runners on 1st and 2nd,Pat Corrales threw the ball into left field on a Maury Wills steal attempt allowing Wills to score and Jimmy Coker to move up to third,Coker would soon score on a Ken McMullen single giving LA a 2-0 lead after one.The Phillies would quickly tie it in the second with 3 straight hits to start the inning, the third being a 2 run single by Gene Alley. The Dodgers would answer, when after a Sandy Koufax walk,Maury Wills doubled to score Koufax giving the Dodgers a 3-2 lead after 2 innings. In the top of the third, following a Johnny Callison ground out the game would be tied again courtesy of a Rich Allen 392 foot bomb to left center field. It was at this time when the scoreboard flashed a final score from Cincinnati: Cubs 2 Reds 1.The message was now clear,a Phillies win puts them in a tie for the NL lead with the Reds. The game would take on a much different tone over the next few innings as neither team could get anything started off of Koufax or Boozer. In the top of the 7th,the Phillies would finally get the break they needed.Cookie Rojas lead off the inning with a base hit to right ,Danny Cater followed with a fly out to deep left field and again it looked as if the Phils would go down quietly.Rojas would have none of it,and in a move that shocked everyone in the stadium,Rojas broke for 2nd on the first pitch to Callison and came out of a cloud of dust with his 1st stolen base of the year! Now with a man in scoring position,Callison had a chance to do something but Koufax rung him up on strikes and it was up to Richie Allen.Allen hit a 1-2 fastball right at second baseman Bart Shirley who misplayed the ball allowing Allen to reach first and more importantly Rojas to score.Clinging to a 4-3 lead, the Phillies behind excellent relief pitching were able to hang on to win the game and move into that coveted spot in the top of the standings! Here's the box score.

Re: 1964(and on)Philadelphia Phillies Historical Simulation-OOTP 8

Friday July 3,1964
Callison's 2 Bombs Lead Phils Past Giants 8-2
Candlestick Park,SF CA.-In a statement game, the Phils marched into Candlestick Park today and beat the Giants at their own game by using the long ball to walk away with an easy 8-2 victory. The Phils got it started in the 2nd when consecutive base hits by Pat Corrales and Jim Bunning set the table for an RBI double by Tony Taylor followed by a two run Danny Cater single and just like that it was 3-0 Phils. With the score 3-1 in the top of the 5th,Johnny Callison destroyed a Billy Pierce fastball for a 452 foot 2 run homer expanding the lead to 5-1.It would stay that way until the 8th when with bases loaded and one out,Pat Corrales singled home a run with his third hit of the day making it 6-1.The Phils would add another run in the inning off of a Jim Bunning sac fly giving the Phillies a 7-1 lead after 8.For some 9th inning dessert,Johnny Callison gave the Giant fans another home run finishing his day 3 for 5 with 2 home runs 3 RBI and 2 runs scored. For Bunning,he gets his 8th victory of the season going 8 and a third allowing 7 hits and 2 earned runs while fanning 6.Here's the box score.

Saturday July 4,1964
Phils Provide Plenty Of Fireworks In 7-2 Victory

Candlestick Park,SF CA.-The Phillies celebrated Independence Day in a big way today by pounding out 15 hits enroute to an easy 7-2 victory over the free falling Giants. The Phillies have now won 9 games in a row and hold a two game lead atop the National League. The Phillies gave Chris Short a 6 run cushion after only four innings of play and Shorty took over from there earning his 11 th victory of the season by going 8+ and allowing 5 hits and 2 earned runs,Short also homered in the 8th helping his cause. With one game left before the All-Star break, the Phillies have guaranteed themselves sole posession of first place at the mid way point, causing an epidemic of "pennant fever" in the city of brotherly love.On another note, the rosters for the mid summer classic will be announced at noon tomorrow with Philadelphia expected to be duely represented. Here's today's box score.

Re: 1964(and on)Philadelphia Phillies Historical Simulation-OOTP 8

Sunday July 5,1964
Phils Win 10th Straight As Giant Rally Falls Short
Candlestick Park,SF Ca.-In a fitting end to a sizzling first half, the Phillies were just able to nip the Giants 6-5 to extend their winning streak to ten games as we head to the break. After a strong performance by starter Claude Osteen, the Phillies took a 6-1 lead into the 8th inning and seemed headed to another easy victory, but Giants third baseman Jim Ray Hart had other ideas.Hart lead off the 8th with a monster home run that seemingly woke the sleepwalking Giants who proceeded to hit the ball hard the rest of the inning, but right at Phillies ending the inning 6-2.In the bottom of the 9th,the Giants came roaring back with 2 singles a double and another single to start their half of the 9th making the score 6-4 with a runner in scoring position. After a JR Hart flyout followed by a McCovey intentional walk,Billy Moran hit into a fielders choice making it first and third with two outs.Jose Carnenal then walked to load the bases for pinch hitter Cap Peterson who grounded a 3-2 pitch between second and short that was stabbed by Tony Taylor who threw Peterson out at first ending the ballgame.Osteen was credited with the win going 7+ allowing 5 hits and 1 earned run,Wade Blasingame pitched to one batter and got the save. Here's the box score.
