9th Inning Error Gives Giants 3-2 Victory

Connie Mack Stadium Phila Pa.-Once again, the Phillies were done in by their own hand as second baseman Tony Taylor with two on and two out in the 9th,fielded the would be third out and threw it over the head of first baseman Danny Cater allowing the eventual winning run to score from second as boos cascaded down from the rafters of Connie Mack Stadium. The win gives the Giants 4 wins in 5 tries against Philadelphia and improves their record to 28 and 25 just 4 and a half games out of first place. As for the Phillies, starter Ray Culp was awesome, going 8 and a third and allowing only 4 hits and 2 earned runs while striking out 5.John Tsitouris was tagged with the tough luck loss despite only giving up 1 hit and an unearned run in two thirds of an inning. The Phillies bats were also pretty quiet today as San Francisco starter Jack Sanford went 8 and two thirds and allowed 7 hits and 2 earned runs while striking out 5.His record improves to 4-4.Masanori Murakami got the save, his 5th.Also for the Giants,Willie McCovey hit his 15 home run of the season. Here's the box score.

Re: 1964(and on)Philadelphia Phillies Historical Simulation-OOTP 8

Sunday June 7,1964
Giants Get The Sweep With 5-3 Victory
Connie Mack Stadium Phila Pa-The San Francisco Giants continued their mastery over the Phillies with a not as close as it looked 5-3 victory. With the ink barely dry on his new two year extention,Phillies starter Jim Bunning pitched well again going 6 innings and allowing 7 hits and 4 runs(2 earned) while striking out 8 but he got no support as the Phils bats were silenced once again by the Giants pitching staff. In the victory, the Giants got homers from Willie McCovey on his way to a 3 for 4 and Jimmy Ray Hart. For Philly,Dick Allen was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI .Here's the box score.

Thomas' 3 RBI Lead Phils to Sweep Of Twin Bill!

Connie Mack Stadium Phila Pa-Phils Left fielder Frank Thomas who's struggled since returning from injury finally broke out today going 2 for 4 with a double, home run and 3 RBI in the Phillies 8-3 victory over the struggling Pirates.Richie Allen also had a hot bat going 3 for 4 with 2 runs scored.Starting pitcher Claude Osteen didn't have his best stuff today but he was able to fight through it to earn his 2nd victory as a Phillie.Osteen went 6 innings allowing 9 hits and 3 earned runs.Rick Wise pitched 3 strong innings to earn the save. For Pittsburgh,it was a game of missed chances. They had 10 hits in the ballgame but were unable to get the big hit to close the gap.On the hill, the Bucs really struggled as starter Don Cardwell was smacked around for 7 hits and 5 earned runs in just 4 innings of work. Here's the box score

Pirates Avoid Sweep With 6-1 Victory
Connie Mack Stadium Phila Pa-The Pittsburgh Pirates entered todays game with a chip on their shoulder and walked away with a dominating 6-1 victory. The Pirates struck hard early as catcher Jim Pagliaroni and first baseman Don Clendonen both had first inning home runs off of Phils starter John Boozer giving Pittsburgh an early 3-0 lead.It would get worse as the Pirates struck for two more in the 4th and another in the 5th before finally the Phillies were able to quiet the Pirate bats.Meanwhile,Pirates starting pitcher Joe Gibbon held the Phils in check all day allowing 7 hits and 0 runs in 7 innings of work. With the win,Gibbon's record improves to 4-5.After a day off tomorrow, the Phillies welcome the 8th place Mets to Connie Mack for a 4 game weekend series. Here's the box score.

Phillies Pound Mets In Series Opener
Connie Mack Stadium Phila Pa.-The NY Mets proved they were no match for the high powered Phillies as the allowed a staggering 17 hits on their way to a brutal 9-2 defeat. With the game tied at 1 after 4 innings,it looked as though we'd have an old fashioned pitching dual, but it wasn't to be as the Phillies exploded in the 5th for 6 hits and 5 runs including a Danny Cater 3 run double that gave the Phils a lead they would never relinquish. The homeboys would add 3 more in the 7th when with two outs the Phillies would go single,double,2 run single,RBI single before Callison flied out to end the inning.Starting pitcher Ray Culp was tremendous as well going 7 and two thirds and allowing 4 hits and 2 earned runs while fanning 7.His record improves to 5-3.Middle reliever John Tsitouris finished off the game going and inning and a third while allowing only a walk. After a rough first outing,Tsitouris has found his stride and become an integral part of the Phillies relief corps.Things will not get any easier for New York as they prepare to face the Phillies big 3(Bunning,Short,Osteen) to close out the series. Here's the box score.
