Card Management ?

So im curious how you guys go about your card management. I try to keep a good amount of cards on me at all times on top of having a full 40 man roster (not active but activated to roster) Im starting to think this is kind of pointless though since I really have no need for so many players on my roster.

What do you guys do to maximize the cards you have and your money ?

Also how many players do you keep active at one time ? Are you going with the full 25 ? Or do you keep less active to save from having to spend in the future ?

Also last question.... what happens to cards you put up for sale that do not sell after the set time frame ?

I keep my 40 man roster stocked and I have about 35-40 in the buy/sell/trade list. When a guy retires, someone else comes up. I use my bronze for fillers on the bench and others for players.

Re: Card Management ?

I keep my 40 at 40 because I have a lot of bench Apt guys that I let sit for 5-10 games (depending) and juice up my ratings according to how I want them. I was originally anti-MLB players, but now I have seen it is more cost effective to use them (especially if you get a good player cheap via bid or pack). I've pumped $10M-plus into a bunch of SP's that I've barely even used, mostly to fill out my roster.

As far as my lineup goes, since I have one of those 99 stamina SP's in long relief, he's always my last guy out of the pen in case I go to extras. I usually carry 23-24 players, 4 bench guys, and have a rotation of 4. So, 8 batters, 4 bench batters, 4 SP's, and 7-8 relievers. My reasoning behind not carrying 25 is because of using up GA that I'm pretty sure I won't need to use at all, plus players don't get injured and need subbing out (I no longer carry a sub catcher). Last night I noticed that of my 40 players, Ryan Zimmerman was my 5th or 6th worst rated player. With a lot of those players burning games and getting better, it makes no sense to let them rot on the bench. I've had guys rated 95-96 (because of their rank vs MLB players at known ratings) just taking up bench space. Mike Stanton has been my #2-3 bench batter as of late.

Re: Card Management ?

Also, use your cards with 3-5 tools and recycle/sell your cards with less. Tools are where it's at. I have a 32 Apt 2B become rated 99 (ie, he was above Braun) within 19 games and I never overtrained him by more than a few dollars. He was a 4-5 tool guy. I'm stoked because all my 12 bronze cards are 4-5 tools and I have a silver and gold with 5 tools. The gold is an A+ catcher with 40 games. Heck yes! I have upwards of 50 platinum cards, and I sell all of the 0-1 tool cards or I recycle them with a gold to hopefully get some tools. That keeps my budget dollars afloat.

Re: Card Management ?

I usually keep a 40 man roster with about 20-30 in cards. When a starter is 10 games from retiring, I activiate his replacement card to the roster, but don't put him on the 25. I train him as much as possible, then when the starter has ~2 games left, I activate the replacement to the roster so I can train him more without overtraining penalties. This way, when my starter retires, I have a capable replacement ready to go.

Re: Card Management ?

I have 0 cards. I always place bids on Daniel Ray Herrera, because no one knows about his screwball and I can get him for less than 500k.

I usually only buy cards when I need them. I am not a fan of selling them as it doesn't seem to profit you much and I hate waiting multiple days. I will rarely quick sell them if I hate the card like a Gold no tools 20 GA.

I occasionally buy the 15 MLB or DD packs too.

That and bid $10M on Jose Bautista. Kinda rich for my blood for just 10 games, hence why I'm hoping I get him through a pack or recycling! Speaking of screwballs, I read that the White Sox may choose one of their 3 or so relievers (Hector Santiago) as their CP based on the fact that he has a screwball. As a Reds fan I can attest to the fact that a screwball did not mean Herrera was any good...

I know lol, but on the game it is nasty. It is basically a very sick 12-6 with some backspin. I also didn't know the White sox reliever threw one? Is it Hector Santiago I take it?

And Yeah I bid 10 mil on Bautista, because I can never ever get him in a pack or by recycling and I'd like to try him out. I get sick of using Holiday, Ichiro, Beltre, Hamilton, Mauer, Napoli, etc.

Holiday has to be the most common A- to A+ card. I faced a guy last night who had him batting 3rd and 4th for him lol. I love me some Ichiro and Mauer though.

Yeah, Hector Santiago is his name, but I have no idea if he's in The Show or if he has a screwball as one of his pitches. I know there are a number of pitchers whose pitch selection is nothing like theirs in real life (there is an article on it, where a guy threw like 40% sliders and it wasn't one of his pitches, and several others).

I feel like Braun is the most common card that I've had/played against. Yeah, I never knew you could have multiples of the same player until I saw Michael Cuddyer playing 2B and OF for a guy. Kinda made me want to have 3 Brauns in the OF, excpet that defense would be terrible. I had Braun drop a lazy fly ball after being camped under the shrinking ball (ie, it wasn't on the run by any means). Just casually stuck his glove out and it bounced right out. Cost me a run to tie it up late in a game I lost.

Re: Card Management ?

Kinda interested as to how most of you claim to have seemingly endless funds atm. Getting 5 mil a game makes these strategies less than viable right now. Unless you are getting a ton of bids>recyc>resales more than me but I do plenty of that.
