Re: from the bottom to the top, share your best rags to riches story

I was in my first or second year with Pacific. Terell Smith was a So. or Jr. I forgot who I played but with around 5-6 mins left in the second or third round of the Big Dance and down by 20+ points I didn't think I had a chance. I just threw up 3's with Terell and they ALL were sinking. When 2 mins. came around I was only down by 10-15 points and the other team could not make a shot. I played tight D, and it came down to the wire at the last seconds of the game. Ended up winning the championship and after 3 seasons I took the job at San Diego. After landing a gig at a major school I thought champs should be easy but I was wrong. I didn't win another one until 5 years later in my second year with UConn. Pacific will always have that small place in my watch list.

Re: from the bottom to the top, share your best rags to riches story

I had to restart. I had a Liberty to Nevada legacy going but it some how got erased. So I'm using some 08-09 roster with all coaches named that seem to be good for me. I started as Elon due to good size (a center that is 7'0") and starting 4 freshmen. I finished 2nd in the SOCON with a last game win over UT-Chattanooga. Then I ran the table and win the SOCON title over Davidson who killed me twice in the regular season. I get a 12 seed and Kentucky. It was a close game but I had Meeks and Patterson fouled out. I ended the game with a 15-2 run and a win by 5. My second round game was Arizona and they could not put the ball in the ocean. They shot less then 30% from the field. Sweet 16 here we come but UNC (#1 seed) stood in my way. I was able to keep the game close but I could not match there 3's and power and speed. They went on to win it all so I don't feel to bad. In the offseason I got raped by two Euro players that didn't sign with me, the only team going after them. I did get a 6'8" PF (3*) that is 70ovr and can run, rebound, and shoot. I found him in the ABL so I knew he was a beast. I was the only team to offer him. I also got a 7'0" center (2*) who was 6'9" when I was recruiting him. I was left with a bunch of walk-ons. Only 1 will see any time. He is a 6'11" C/PF.
Year 2 here we go. I played my first game this morning. It was a blow out lose to the Golden Gophers. They are ranked 12th and were just to fast. I have 6 scolorships for this year and have offered 6 real good 3* & 2* players that I found and played with in the ABL. It is such a great tool that helps prevent the blind recruiting. I hope to get a new job after this year but if I don't then that is ok because this team is young and has some good shooters and fun players.

* I could remember all this because I just finished year 1 last night.*

Re: from the bottom to the top, share your best rags to riches story

I had a CAL Golden Bears legacy with my created team, the Reapers. Back in 2008 Cal wasn't that great, but they weren't back. I had Jeremy Hazell on my team from Seton Hall just as an added bonus. I was playing an Oklahoma State team in a tournament and I was down most of the game due to bad shooting from my guards (jerome randle and hazell) and my forwards were not defending very well (patrick christopher and theo robertson) and my center (jordan wilkes) could not make a free throw or a shot under the basket. By halftime, I was down by 15. I stormed back in the 2nd half, having Hazell draining shots from everywhere on the floor, and soon enough i was down by 3 with a couple ticks to go, when Hazell gets fouled on a three point attempt, and makes all three free throws to go to OT. In OT, down by three again, Hazell hits a buzzer beater three to tie it up and send it into 2OT. I ended up being down AGAIN by three, until Hazell hits yet another buzzer beater 6 feet behind the 3-point line. Finally, in 3OT, I was tied, and wouldn't you know it, Hazell hit another three to win the game. I was soooooo happy.

My guys downed some brews after the game

My team ended up going 34-2, but losing in the NCAA Championship to North Carolina
