What does that big blue "W" by the player's name mean?

I figured out the "T" means transfer, but haven't figured out what the "W" means. Also, what does it mean when it's blinking on and off? Thanks.

W = Walk-On. I don't know about blinking.

W = Walk on but I have no clue as to why it would be blinking. I've never seen it do that.

Maybe it could be that the player is a walk on and were red shirted so it would alternate between the W and the red shirt symbol but the game isn't reading the red shirt symbol correctly so it doesn't show up? Making it seem as if the W is blinking on and off instead of alternation between the two. That's my best guess.

W= walk-on and the thing is blinking because the player is a red shirted walk-on ive seen that quite a few times.
