Recruiting JuCos

What are your guys' thoughts on recruiting JuCo players in your legacies? Do you prefer them or avoid them? When is a good situation to go after them?

Re: Recruiting JuCos

I like going after JuCo players when I'm playing a career legacy. It's pretty easy to get a 3* JuCo player on a small team. Not to mention that they usually can contribute right away, and I probably won't be at that school long enough to have a true freshman become a senior anyways.

Re: Recruiting JuCos

I don't mind recruiting JUCOs if I'm in need of a position, but I usuallly don't like anymore than 1 or 2 in a recruiting class. I prefer bringing in freshmen and watching them progress throughout their career rather than loading a roster with JUCO guys hoping for instance success.

I do recall a legacy I had with WVU where I was able to land a 4* JUCO SG that was lights out though in his first year. He averaged 22 ppg and led me to the Sweet 16 his first season. I'm not sure what happened to him his final year, but he only averaged 14 ppg and was terrible for me in the Big East and NCCA Tournament, only averaging about 6 ppg in 4 games.

Re: Recruiting JuCos

I usually do it to even out the classes, so I don't have a ton of seniors one year and none the next. I do play with Wright State, so they're usually around the middle to upper part talent wise on my roster.

Re: Recruiting JuCos

I tend to avoid them because they're horrible players from my experience. Even post patch, a 4 or 5 star Juco will be in the 60's ovr.

In a career legacy I'm all for it just to try to ink some higher ranked players, but in my UConn legacy I only pick one up in an emergency and even then I only go for big men to help with rebounding. Most will be useless on offense.

Re: Recruiting JuCos

With a small school, I'll attempt to grab a JuCo here or there, but if I'm playing with a school in at least a mid-major conference, then I'll usually pass on them.

Re: Recruiting JuCos

they're usually a last resort for me (i play an open legacy as Duke). I think I've signed like 3 in ~10 years. 2 were out of absolute necessity (i tend to play a 10 man rotation and needed a player to fill a back up spot). One, however, was a 5* PF who was outstanding for me. Came in as a junior and started every game of his career. Was all ACC and national defensive player of the year as a senior. He was a 6'10 PF who was very good around the rim and rebounded the hell out of the ball. Left as a lottery pick.

Honestly, if the ratio of 4 and 5* bigs to 4 and 5* guards was as it should be (as opposed to 4 or 5 bigs a year) i wouldn't have ever gone after them.

They can be useful though. Even the one guard i was forced to take had a solid junior year before being pushed out of the rotation as a senior. He was a 6'5 SG with nice strength and speed and a good jump shot animation. Once i got his ball handling rating up over 80 (so that he could do an actual cross over) he was a very respectable player.

Re: Recruiting JuCos

this is interesting because I feel like the AI has the same opinions about JuCos as people have posted here... I have been at Hawaii for 7 seasons and I have picked up a few because they are a bit easier to get in my experience... in fact i just landed a soph 5-star PG from Detroit, and it was my first 5-star recruit of any variety, this is like my 14th or 15th season in my career!

Re: Recruiting JuCos

At a small school JuCo Jrs and Srs are a great help, espcially the 3-4* guys who come in the be in the upper half of the roster. But at a big school its a gamble that rarely pays off.
