Keys to a fun legacy

What keeps you going with one legacy?

For me, the main thing is, it has to be a challenge. If my team wins by 30 every game and finishes 33-1 with a title, I'm not interested. I need buzzer beaters, drama, and tough defeats. The great thing about College Hoops 2k8 is that when I lose on an incredible buzzer beater by the opponent, I'm actually somewhat upset, as if I were watching my favorite team on TV. Even better is that after a couple of minutes, I can smile, realizing just how realistic the game was and how realistic the feeling after the game was.

Re: Keys to a fun legacy

I've only had one season in which I dominated every team by 20+ pts and didn't lose my first game until I'd won 24 straight. Unfortunately, in that same season I lost my season finale on a buzzer beater to Penn State, got blown out in my 1st round tourney game by Iowa, then lost in the First Round of the NCAA's in OT as the #1 overall seed. I lost 4 total games that season, 3 of them were my final 3 games of the year. Toughest season yet with the best team I will likely ever have. But thats the stuff that keeps me coming back to this game.

Re: Keys to a fun legacy

For me it's to play with a team that I am familiar with and like. Also, I like close games, and playing with Wright State in the Horizon league does that for me. I've had plenty of games go down to the wire, some winning on a buzzer beater, some buzzer beaters to send it to OT, and some losing on buzzer beaters etc...

The challenge to get recruits to sign also keeps it interesting. It's sort of boring if I can just choose who I want and easily get them, but that's not the case in this game as I've lost out on a few recruits.

Re: Keys to a fun legacy

Close games are important to keep me playing, I like that I am completely overmatched by teams rated 10+ points higher than me. I like being good enough to win the regular season conference title but still lose in the conference tournament, it is hard to find that mix in sports videogames.

So close, realistic games are a must, but it is the recruiting battles that keep me playing this game. I just fnished my second season at Liberty and didn't sign a single recruit. I thought I had two wrapped up, but some big boys swept in and grabbed a 3* pf(committed to UNC) and I got beat out on a 3* pg. It was a completely helpless feeling seeing UNC and UL pop up on the pfs interest list, they quickly jumped over me and he committed as soon as the offseason recruiting period started. It hurt, I thought I had found a perfect fit(he had a great 3pt% in ABL, but wasn't very highly rated) and I was the only team recruiting him, but it is battles like that which have kept me playing this game for so long.

I am starting to see the depth of this game make the dynasty fun I enjoy building up my freshman and seeing them grow into my leaders. Every season there is a new challange.

Re: Keys to a fun legacy

I agree as well with many on here in stating close games are key - but I usually run the table until the end of the schedule. That's when it seems the other teams in the conference play a bit better, seniors start to shine and make big shots. I had the same deal where I went 20 and whatever, then lost my last 3 or 4 and then lost in the first round - being blown out I might add to dash my hopes. I could do nothing except stare at the final score and review the season recap. I still had to smile though because I had landed my first 4 star player - So I had that going for me. I really enjoy building my team and players, developing them and trying to establish my current team as a powerhouse.

Re: Keys to a fun legacy

I wish it were a little easier to get all close games. I'm in my 16th season with UCF now and have pretty much turned them into the new Memphis of Conference USA. Even in my early years, although sliders may have been too easy, I didn't get consistent challenge from the CPU until the end of the season. Because of that I never won a title until my 8th year but have won four more since then.

Anyway, I played this game the least when I was dominating everyone. Now I have closer games and love it, plus I can finally compete with the big boys when it comes to recruiting. I have lost in two title games which does nothing but make you want to start playing the next season immediately.

Also, I think having different types of teams throughout a legacy is key. I've had all-around teams, one-man shows, and teams where two and three guys scored all of the points. It makes it mroe fun.

The best part is, I have a very extensive Excel spreadsheet with every stats from every season that gives me a chance to look at all of my work on paper.

Re: Keys to a fun legacy

For me it's most important to stay immersed in my legacy. Know what's going on in my conference and around the country. You can't rush through seasons IMO, I take my time, look at a lot of stats, other teams schedules, the recruiting battles, etc.

I lose interest quickly if I only focus on my team and have no idea what's going on around me.

Re: Keys to a fun legacy

All I need is a good set of sliders I know that play well and realisticly. If my team does horrible on 3's one game, and does great with 3's the next, then I'm happy to have that sort of versatility, and it makes every game new and interesting, you never know how it's gonna go.

Thats the main reason Ive stuck with more 2k games rather than EA...EA is finally getting it now!
