Re: How is YOUR Career Legacy going?!?!

I started up a legacy with North Dakota State. I only recruited and simulated all the games. NCAA Tournament games were the only ones that I would play. After about 30 years I had won the conference 15 or 16 times and had turned them into a Summit League power, even getting an at large bid a couple times. However, no matter what my record was or how well my team was rated I could never get a good seed. My best was a nine seed while I usually got a 12. I kept saying I would continue to coach there until I could get them to the Sweet Sixteen, but after 18 tournament appearances and failing to make it once, I got frustrated and left.

From there it was to Evanston. Northwestern had been trying to get me for at least 15 years and they were on the list once again. They were awful. The first season I went .500 in non-conference and had about 3 wins total in the Big Ten. That first offseason was when I learned the perks of being in a power conference. The recruting budget was HUGE and despite the fact that I was flat out awful there were still some four stars interested. I had no chance at any five stars but I decided I'd take a different route: If you can't get the top skill, might as well try to get the top size. I started looking for the tallest recruits I could find at each position. The first couple years were a mix of three and four stars but I was gaining more ground with the four stars.

My fifth year I was beginning to turn it around. I had a decent non-con record but went middle of the road in the Big Ten, having to play Thursday of the conference tournament. Remember I'm still simulating at this point: I go on a four day, four game win streak including a win over #2 Michigan State in the championship to give Northwestern their first tournament bid in school history. That's right, in 2043 the Wildcats made their first tournament, the drought only lasted 104 years.

Selection Sunday comes and I'm in the tournament as a 12 seed. I play the first game and I realize how this team can go on a hot streak. My center and point guard were my shortest players. My starting lineup went: 6'8, 6'9, 6'9, 6'11, 6'8. Needless to say I dominated on the boards. The 6'11 forward reminded me of Dirk. He could do it all. I didn't find out he could do it all until the Elite Eight. Before that I was using him as a beast in the post but it turned out he could hit the three like the best shooting guards in the nation. The hot streak continued and little 12 seed Northwestern went on to win their first national title in their first tournament appearance. The 6'11 kid ended up being Player of the Year and scored 45 for me in the national championship.

The next few years I was raking in recruits but couldn't put together a deep tourney run. I was the 1 and 2 seeds and got bounced in the Sweet Sixteen both times. In my 40th year the game told me it would be my last season. I got the 3 seed and made it to the Elite Eight when the season came to an end.

I finished with 800+ wins, who knows how many Summit Coach of the Year titles, 1 NC, 1 FF, 2 E8 and 5 S16, about 25 tournament appearances. I plan on doing it again sometime, but it can get frustrating in the beginning. I think next time I'll start at a program in a more populous state so I can get local kids easier.

Re: How is YOUR Career Legacy going?!?!

Also, something I forgot to mention in my post above.

The Atlantic-10 became a power conference. I didn't go look at their profile to see if the game physically changed their ranking to power, but it certainly became one regardless. Near the end of my legacy there were 7 and 8 teams making it out of the A-10 each year, with Richmond and LaSalle becoming dominate teams. They didn't really replace another power conference more than they just added to make 7 of them.

In fact, one year there weren't really any power conferences. Out of the field of 65, one had 6 teams in, another five, and i think six conferences had 4. Lots of equality.

Re: How is YOUR Career Legacy going?!?!

After reading about what everyone's been accomplishing here with their career legacy, I decided to put my open legacy on hold and make a career legacy myself. I made a coach named "Clyde McDaniel", and put all of my attribute points into Charisma so I can start recruiting talent right away. I chose Texas Southern as my first school to coach. I decided to simulate all games except for conference tournament and ncaa/nit tourney games.

Here's my record so far:
2007-08: 17-15
2008-09: 24-7 (NIT: First round)
2009-10: 17-10
2010-11: 29-5 (NCAA: Second Round)
2011-12: 29-7 (NCAA: First Round)
2012-13: 22-7 (NIT: First Round)
2013-14: 22-10 (NCAA: First Round)

Coach Profile: OVR: B
Offense: C-
Defense: C-
Teaching: A-
Scouting: B+
Charisma: A+
Discipline: C-

The funnest thing about this team each year is we seem to get better as a team and I keep getting better recruits yearly. When I first started, out team OVR was about 68. Now it's 83. Our roster had players in the 50-69 range. Now we are in the 71-81 range.

As far as our progress as a team goes, we've pretty much dominated our conference, but we always lose to the power conference teams with a few upsets here and there. We've gotten to the tourney a few times, but our players weren't good enough to compete against some of the teams we were being pitted against in the first two rounds. They were more like David and Goliath-type matchups that never ended well. However, in my current season, we have the best team I've ever had in my career legacy by far. We got a couple 4 star recruits, and managed to get a few 3 stars ranked in the top 150 in my past few recruiting classes. I believe my current team has what it takes to make the Sweet 16 and maybe further. The best part of it all is if we fail to make a deep run this year, I get all my starters back next year for one last try. I just upset #3 Arizona as a #14 seed.

Here's my lineup below:
PG Freddy Shepard 6'0" 165lbs JR (OVR:81) 4-star recruit (C potential)
SG Pierre Bolton 6'9" 226lbs SO (OVR:78) 3-star recruit (A potential)
SF Paco Riley 6'7" 231lbs JR (OVR:74) 3-star recruit (F potential)
PF Sid Lindsey 6'9" 240lbs SO (OVR:77) 3-star recruit (A- potential)
C Chester Gary 6'11" 278lbs SO (OVR:77) 3-star recruit (D potential)

Looking at my lineup, I'd say I have a fairly nice lineup given my team in the conference I'm in. My lineup far exceeds any other teams in my conference as well as my bench. The standout is my SG Pierre Bolton. He was a 72 OVR as a Freshman, but is almost in the 80s toward the end of this Sophomore season. He was a skinny 6'5" kid that has grown to whopping 6'9" in two years time. He plays like a Kevin Durant type player, a dynamite scorer, and plays lock down defense. This past season, he averaged 21.6ppg and 2.6 rebounds. That's pretty impressive as a sophomore in the conference I'm in. I can't wait to see what this kid's going to be like as a senior. It would be awesome if he decided to enter the draft. I would go nuts knowing I signed a 3-star recruit as Texas Southern who was future pro prospect. That would be simply awesome.

I'll keep updated on my NCAA tourney progress. Like I previously mentioned, we just upset #3 Arizona and now have a date with #6 Louisville in the second round. Our goal is the sweet 16. Wish us luck!

Re: How is YOUR Career Legacy going?!?!

Just finished playing my third game as Drexel against Norfolk State (my legacy is in my sig, it's a running series from the team I jilted to the team I joined).

Amazingly intense game that turned into a track meet. I started out 0-8 on the road and was down by as much as 12. It was rough at first, but I fought back in the closing minutes.

Norfolk State kept making ridiculous threes in the closing minutes though.

It's so fun to play against players I recruited. The CPU does so well with keeping my strategy/tendencies.

Re: How is YOUR Career Legacy going?!?!

Picking up where I left off with my Texas Southern career legacy, I continued to plow through the tournament, facing #6 Louisville beating them 54-65 to make it to the Sweet 16 for the first time in my coaching career. Had to duel with #2 Cincinnati and managed a blow out beating them 76-52 for another big upset. Advancing to the Elite 8, we were pitted against #5 Oklahoma State, which ended up being a very good game until we managed to pull away using the quickness of our guards to get easy fastbreak points down the stretch. We beat them 71-81.

Finally, 8 years in the making coaching at my first school, we made the Final Four.

Pierre Bolton, the stud Sophomore on our team's pro buzz has risen from Undrafted to Dark Horse. I just played our Final Four game against #1 Boston College, and I'm afraid we lost the game, 71-74. However, it was a good loss. We went head to head with them throughout most of the game, but their 3-pointers were falling like rain. We kept fouling towards the end of the game for one last possession, which ended in a steal. Pierre Bolton shot the last shot of the game in an attempt to tie the game, but to no avail. I was amazed how most of my kids stepped up during this game. They were hitting shots they normally never make let alone take.

#1 Boston College ended up winning the championship, so I feel a little better knowing we lost to the team who ended up winning it all (and we only lost to them by 3 points). I'm pretty satisfied with the run we gave this year. I'm simply more happy given the fact we achieved this with 3 Juniors and 2 Sophomores in our starting lineup, so we have one last chance for a NCAA Championship with this dynasty I'm building with Texas Southern.

I've decided it will be time to move on to a bigger school if we don't get a championship for this upcoming season. Pierre Bolton was named Conference Player of the Year along with being First Team-All Conference, so I'm hoping this upcoming year he will reap even bigger awards!

This year's record:
2014-15: 26-8 (NCAA: Final Four)

Rewards:
My Coach (Clyde McDaniel): Conference Coach of the Year
Fredy Sheppard (Jr PG): First-Team All-Conference
Piere Bolton (So SG): First-Team All-Conference, Conference Player of the Year
Paco Riley (Jr SF): First-Team All-Conference

Re: How is YOUR Career Legacy going?!?!

Just started up this game again. Starting out with Sacremento State in my first year doing coach mode only. Rough start to the season but then the team picked it up to push ahead to a winning record.

Went into last game against Portland State with a 7-4 record. Dominated the first half until the last minute where they went on a run of 3-pointers to close it to a 6 point game at half. 2nd half they came out right where they left off. After a very long and frustrating 2nd half it comes down to the less than a minute and they have pushed ahead to 5 points.

My point guard comes down the court and hits a 3 to make it a 2 point game. Forced to foul them and they sink both free throws pushing it back to 4. My team comes down the court and feed it to my SG and he throws up a 3 and it goes in to make it a 1 point game. I foul once again with 17 seconds left to put them on the line. They hit both free throws to make it a 3 point game.

My PG comes up the court and dishes it to my SG with about 8 seconds left. He fires up the shot for the tie but it hits rim and misses. My Center some how grabs the offensive rebound with 3 seconds and throws it back out to the SG who is closely guarded and he has to launch a shot. It goes up and I hear a whistle and I am just thinking "No way I get to go to the line for 3 and the tie"

Then after that thought goes through my head the shot drops in and instead he is going to the line for the win with 1.1 seconds left! He sinks the free throw and they miss a full court shot to cap off an improbably last minute comeback. I felt so helpless since it was coach mode but my players pulled through!

I know you just replied to me in the other thread about Coach Mode and a game like this would feel extra special knowing you didn't have a hand in the win yourself.

Yeah it is one of those things where you control a lot of things throughout the game but it really all comes down to how your players execute and not how you execute. It is a nice combination of having control while still being out of your hands at the same time.
