Game speed, vs Player speed Defense?

hey guys,

i wondering what game speed and player speed most of you are playing on? to me, it almost seems like the speed is way too low, like players are in slow motion...

also, i was wondering if anyone else thinks the on ball defense for the computer is too strong? i seem to just get pushed off my dribble all the time, even when i use good ball handlers... any tips???

Re: Game speed, vs Player speed Defense?

I leave game speed at 50 for one simple reason - raising it speeds up the clock. I just don't like that, even though it does make it possible to bring the stats down. If I can avoid it, I'd like to get the stats close without messing with that.

Player speed is another story. Right now I'm at default, but I'm not opposed to raising it a bit to speed up the game. It especially looks bad when centers are "running" at their top speed - like they're running in molasses.

so, does game speed do exactly that? it makes the clock run faster? also, does it make the teams play faster, like everyone plays like the suns or something?

I'm not sure it would actually affect the AI's strategy (when they run and when they dont) - there are coaching options for that. I think it does affect how fast the players run, and just how fast everything is moving in general.

This is the description from the help menu.

Quote:
Game Speed: Sets the overall pace on the court such as speed of passes (including game clock)
A small adjustment isn't going to make a 60 rated team run like Duke, though turning it up to full might. That's what I'm trying to figure out right now - how much I can turn the player speed up before it turns into RocketBall.

Also, it's not a tremendously sped up clock like, say, NBA JAM - at at gamespeed=100 I'd say it's somewhere between a half second and 3/4 of a second for every real life second. It adds up over the course of a full half though, and it will affect the stats.

I use this setup on AC and I like it:

Game Speed: 70 (I think everything moves naturally)
Player Speed: 80
HUM/CPU Speed: 0

The last two offset each other. I think neither team gets a cheat this way.

While the clock does run faster, it is fairly minimal.

A few examples:

16 Minute Half at 60 Speed = 15:22 Real Time.
16 Minute Half at 70 Speed = 14:13 Real Time.

Re: Game speed, vs Player speed Defense?

Man, I must be getting old because the game plays way too fast for me on default.

I changed the game speed to 60 and the player speed to 35, that way the players don't move too fast for my feeble reflexes (game feels more tactical) and it is more possible to get open shots on the lightning quick CPU defensive recovery.

One thing I do wonder about is why there is the game speed/player speed sliders, then there is also another player speed slider under the slider options. Anyone know the difference?

From what I can tell, the Attribute speed slider (the one found along with awareness, steal, and the others) is a much finer adjustment than the player speed slider in the gameplay menu. I can't explain this without the wording getting VERY confusing, so I'll present it in a few situations:

Player speed - 50
Attribute speed - 100

Will noticably increase the players' top end speed (running at full tilt, but won't do much if they're just moving slowly. Nothing compared to:

Player speed - 100
Attribute speed - 50

Craziness. It is impossible to just trot or walk around the court - the slider even affects when you barely nudge the stick. The faster players can run the length of the court in about 3 seconds.

So how quick can guys get up and down the court...

I know you say it looks natural but is that the same as saying realistic?

Basically what I am trying to do is get it to where I move like the CPU on fast breaks...I can't catch up to them, but they catch up to me most times on breakaways....

Can you give some examples of what these sliders make efficient?
