Roster Maker's Resource Thread

Since I don't believe I'll be able to complete the rosters for the 08-09 season myself, I figured I would try to help others that are trying to finish. This is most of the websites I was using to get as much information as possible to re-rate and edit the rosters to as accurate as I could.

If you have any other sites that you would like me to add post them here and I'll put them up.

Player Stats

ESPN
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/teams
Good info: assist/turnover ratio, fouls per game (for foul tendency), block pg, steals pg, mpg for rotations

Yahoo
http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/teams
Good info: lists number of starts for each player, offensive rebounds, average shots taken per game

Stat Sheet
http://statsheet.com/mcb/teams/browse/conference
Good info: team averages (offensive and defensive), loads of information on players, compare this season to last season

CBS Sportsline
http://www.sportsline.com/collegebasketball/teams/all
Good info: lists players national rank in several categories

Season Previews

Athlon Sports Preview (For Each Conference)
http://msn.foxsports.com/cbk/story/8...g-East-preview
Good info: has projected outcome of every conference, 3 teams of preseason all-americans for large conferences, good for using for team overall ratings

College Sports Fans
http://www.collegesports-fans.com/ba...a-preview.html
Good info: season previews for almost every team, great for smaller teams

Recruits

Rivals
http://rivalshoops.rivals.com/bteaml...commit&SID=910

ESPN
http://insider.espn.go.com/ncb/recru...ea son%3d2008

Other Information

Top Players in NCAA Basketball 2009
http://gamecinemahd.com/article/2008...player_ratings
Good info: can compare players this way and see who should/could be rated higher relative to other players

Same as above for College Hoops 2k8 out of the box
http://www.postgameheroes.com/?p=1445
Good info: Great for going by for team ratings, also 92 was the highest overall, the top player ratings should be similar just with different players obviously (we don’t need 20 players over a 90 overall, there should be like 3 in the 90s (Hansbrough, Griffen, and Curry) with a few in the upper 80s)

Real Time RPI
http://realtimerpi.com/rpi_Men.html
Up to date RPI and SOS based on this year, good if you want to use TarHeelsUNC’s spreadsheet (below)

Utilities

TarHeelsUNC’s 2k8 Ratings Spreadsheet
http://www.operationsports.com/forum...00-post60.html
Good for certain ratings, but I wouldn’t rely on it most ratings.

Nice find!

On a side note, when I adjusted my rosters, I put 1st team AA, POY, and NBA lottery picks in the 90's. Maybe a 2nd team AA or two. 2nd and 3rd team AA, and all conference (BCS usually) were in the upper 80's. 2nd teams all conference mid to lower 80's. After that I kinda left as is.

You can have people lower than a 90 and they will still leave early. What you can do is have them rated between 86-89 still and just put their potential at 99. I meant to do some testing on what it takes to leave a player a long time ago for draft classes but I never got NBA 2k8. I'll do a search on here in a bit because I think I remember talking about it on here.

My reasoning behind not having a bunch of people in the 90s is that...
A) The default rosters had like 3 or 4 in the 90s if that
B) DKrause had similar in his edited rosters
C) It doesn't take a 90 overall rating for a player to be really good in the game.
D) Look at classic teams, Jordan is a 94 overall.
E) It also makes the team overalls go really, really high if there are too many highly rated players. It's easy to wind up with several teams rated higher than some of the classic teams if someone gets too carried away.

Nice info here.
This is probably a stupid question but I just got the game and I don't see where I can edit the coaches names. Do you do this under rosters or coach's profile or is it somewhere else?

Re: Roster Maker's Resource Thread

Cubsfan,

I was just wondering.. what type of formula were you going to use to get the specific ratings for the players? How accurate do they seem to be? If I get a chance I'd like to start adjusting some of the ratings so they're how they should be. So far I've only had time to update the names/numbers etc.. without much regard to the ratings. If ya could send me a message or reply on here I'd appreciate it.

Kind of what I'm curious about as well. I would love some hard and fast method on ratings, as its what I struggle with.

Re: Roster Maker's Resource Thread

The NCAA website has a really good stats database, going back to the late 90s:
