The ones that you listed as no brainers...
There was this guy named DEAN SMITH who took over a small college program and did fairly good for himself. Thought he might have been one of those no brainers you listed, but that's just me.

I'd probably go with Izzo over Heathcote.

Both won one championship, Izzo has been to way more Final 4's.

You could certainly go either way, Heathcote has more career wins though and obviously had a longer tenure than Izzo thus far at MSU.

This topic got be interested, so I decided to hone up on my MSU coaching history.

Heathcote was 340-220 (.604) in 19 seasons.
Heathcote averaged 17.89 wins a season.
-Three B10 titles (77-78, 78-79 & 89-90)
-One National Championship (78-79) (1st in school history, bonus points there )

Izzo is 278-121 (.697) in 12 full seasons.
Izzo averages 23.16 wins a season.
If Izzo continues on his same pace, he will end up with 440 wins (100 more!) than Jud in 19 seasons (big assumption I know, but still)
-Four (consecutive) regular season B10 championships (97-98, 98-99, 99-00 & 00-01)
-Two B10 tourney titles (98-99 & 99-00)
-One National Championship (99-00)

Overall, two very distinguished coaching careers. Jud is a legend. Izzo will be a legend. With that said, I'd probably take Jud as my All-time team Head Coach, with Izzo & Tom Crean as assistants. Pretty damn impressive if you ask me.

Re: All time Coaches vote

Definitely not James Naismith for Kansas, it should definitely be Forrest "Phog "Allen, and if Dean Smith and Adolph Rupp are "no brainers" Forrest "Phog" Allen should be too.

"To each his own - and all that jazz..."

Some in this cosmopolitan culture might suggest:

All Time Michigan - Steve Fischer > Bill Frieder

All Time Kentucky - Adolph Rupp > Rick Pitino

All Time Kansas - James Naismith (losing record) or Phog Allen > Larry Brown

and

All Time Georgetown - John Thompson II > John Thompson

(That last one was like picking John Wooden II over John Wooden)

Great Feedback guys thanks... I wasnt familiar with Kanasa B-ball so I didnt know Phog Allen, and Yes Dean Smith WAS a no brainer... That said, who would you list for the All Conference teams? I thought about giving Jimmy V the nod for the ACC as a tribute

FYI, even though James Naismith is a signifant figure in the history or basketball in general, I think he is the only coach in the history of that school with a losing record just to give you some perspective.
