Icon4 Appearanace editing question regarding builds. Might just be a framerate saver?!

As you know we can edit any player however we want...well, almost anyway. What i found to be kind of odd is that the player faces are not THAT detailed and have a washed out look while the jerseys/uniforms are more shiny say.
The next thing i noticed was the muscles and build, that were detailed, but it made no sense to have them detailed.

SO. AS crazy as it sounds. i edited two teams worth of body builds. I changed buff to ripped and it smoothed out the skin texture. and made the players look more uniformal on the court AND somehow unless my eyes are deceiving me the game run a tad smoother and animations seem to flow more.

Now stay with me/bare with me here. we all know that the more detail there is in the stands the worse the framerate can be. We saw/see this in EA's games and they've actually allowed us contrast and brightness sliders because of it even this years NBA Live 08 game was toned down in the crowd so that it was darker and not as bright say.

That said. brightness OR say the whiteness wrapped around an object (sharpness. we know this from LCD config's.) need to be toned down IF the game can't outright handle it.

the solution has always been to lessen this effect and what i JUST did with the player builds actually seems to help this.

You might say i'm nuts but i did the SAME thing(well sorta) for NBA Live 07 when NONE else thought of it. what i did was brought down the brightness and brought up the contrast so that the sharpness wasn't as dominant.

I'd be happy to do a few conferences or do all of them if this feeling is mutual between us all. And then maybe someone could make another file off of it?

Re: Appearanace editing question regarding builds. Might just be a framerate saver?!

I'm doing it.

I just tested two more teams and the framerate is significantly improved

My first test was seeing how at tip off the game starts. USUALLY the game would hiccup once you settle in on who has the ball and takes a few secs to pop into a steady frame. NOT at all with this edit. It's smooth from the get go. Animations are even better. It's just something about it. it looks better and feels better i kid you not this one works. i knew something was wrong when i continued editing and saw that EVERY player no matter what build they were were buff NOT ripped(which has the more smoother look to it equalling less texture/detail)

I've struck gold people!

Off I go!

Big East DONE.

i just want to reiterate.

In NBA live 08/NCAA 08 you'll see that the skin textures have a mat finish. meaning just kinda dry or bland looking. Yes theres detail it's just more flat or smooth say.

Well i just did the exact same thing in CH 2k8. i changed everyones skin texture to match everything overall in the game and PRESTO. The framerate is comparable to NBA live 08 now...

ACC
Big East
Big Ten

I'm in the process of JUSt changing players skin textures to look smoother

I am also continuing with making player heads proper sizes...LOL

Easy enough edit. It will be a base i hpe many use to improve on with actual player equipment changes etc...
