Is BSU at #4 an embarrassment for College Football?

BSU is a good football team, but #4? Come on. How can the polls / rankings justify rewarding a team that plays a schedule littered with the likes of UC Davis, Miami (OH), Tulsa, and the their entire WAC schedule?

This isn't BSU's fault. As athletic director, I'd do the same thing. Why not? They still get the notoriety. It's just wrong, but college football rewards it. They have maybe one ranked opponent on their schedule each year, and that's suspect at best. They beat Oregon. Big deal, they caught them early. A #4 team does not squeak out a 7 point win against Tulsa, home or away. Bring on the Wolfpack. Ugh....

In BSU's defense, why would a top twenty-five school schedule an out-of-conference game with them? They have everything to lose and not much to gain. However, Georgia did it back in 2005, and they crushed BSU 48-13. SEC football is much different than WAC football. BSU couldn't withstand the schedule of a tougher conference without suffering a few losses. They may end up ranked, but my guess is they'd have a tough time breaking the top twenty.

I live in Boise, and I have to listen to these myopic fans spew their constant drivel. They talk about how BSU deserves a shot at the National Title. Please. Thanks, Bob Stoops. You created a monster. A monster that's made out of paper. Yes, they beat Oklahoma in a very entertaining game. By the time Oklahoma pulled their head out, it was too late. I would be willing to bet that if they played that game ten more times, BSU would have lost every one.

Throw out the Oklahoma Fiesta Bowl and look at BSU's other Bowl games in the last five years. It's not impressive, and their opponents have not been high quality teams. The two years following the Fiesta Bowl, they lost to ECU and TCU. The two years before the Fiesta Bowl, they lost to Louisville and Boston College. The loss to Boston College came on BSU's own blue turf.

Feel free to set me straight. I'd love to hear arguments that are not coming from BSU fans. I have nothing against BSU, they've done a great job with their program. It's their fans. They are out of control and college football and the rankings are pouring gas on the fire. I just can't see it.

They won't stay there. And they did beat Oregon, and that's a better win than most teams have at this time.

How do you know that?

This is basically telling teams to schedule OOC as weak as possible.

Blame the system, not the team.

Within the parameters of the system, you have to look at facts:

1. They started out relatively high in the rankings.
2. They have not lost.
3. They have a better quality win than Cincy, or USC has.

Where should they be ranked given the system?

Ideally there would be a tournament to decides this, but given the bogus Shenanigan system in place they need to be ranked higher than USC at this point and above Cioncy as well.

Any time this stuff comes up, I like to plug my favorite formula, the Colley Matrix.

http://www.colleyrankings.com/currank.html

It strictly a formula I agree with most. I've looked at the other computer polls and they aren't as good as this one.

Boise St is deserving of that rank.

I don't know. I thought they'd drop after struggling with with Tulsa. They moved up instead.

I don't blame BSU. Like I said in my original post, I'd do exactly what they are doing. I hope they end up ranked as high as they can get, and then get smacked in the mouth in their bowl game.

This isn't meant to be another thread about how broken the BCS is. I just don't believe BSU is worthy of a #4 ranking. Apparently, I am in the minority.

Just because you haven't lost shouldn't make you a top-five team in the country.

The fact that college football plays exhibition games at the end of the season is an embarrasment.

Re: Is BSU at #4 an embarrassment for College Football?

How long is it going to take for traditionalists to realize that BSU is one of the better programs in the country right now? They're third-tier at worst, and maybe even starting to nudge into that second tier. I heard someone mention, they're the Gonzaga of football, and I agree.

They're legit. They've been proving it for over a decade now.
