Yet another Bowl: The Dallas Football Classic

I don't know why the NCAA would approve yet another bowl game.

Cotton Bowl Stadium gets new postseason game

10/13/2009

Associated Press

Cotton Bowl Stadium has found a replacement for the namesake game that is moving to the new Cowboys Stadium.

The Dallas Football Classic at the 77-year-old Fair Park venue will debut on New Year's Day after the 2010 season with teams from the Big Ten and Conference USA.

The Cotton Bowl is moving this season to the Cowboys' $1.15 billion stadium in suburban Arlington. The Cotton Bowl on Tuesday extended its deal with the Big 12 through 2014 and plans to the same with the SEC.

The Big Ten will end a 14-year relationship with the Alamo Bowl in San Antonio after this season. Instead, the Big Ten will send teams to Dallas and the Texas Bowl in Houston, where a Big 12 team will be the opponent.

Another pointless bowl game.

If they approve this, it officially kills whatever prestige you had for playing on New Years Day.

Hooray for watching possible Minnesota/UTEP matchups.

New Year's Day has essentially already been ruined.

C-USA/Big 10? Seriously? Do I want to watch a mid-tier Big 10 team face off against a Conference USA team? This in no way, shape, or form should be a New Year's Day game.

And does the Big 10 need ANOTHER New Year's Bowl? Geez. This will be the #5 Big 10 team, I guess, and they get a New Year's Bowl slot? Heck, with two BCS selections, the Big 10 could send its sixth team to a New Year's Day Bowl. The sixth-place Big 10 team didn't even finish in the top half of their conference.

Three BCS conferences (Pac-10, Big East, ACC) don't even have a New Year's Day bowl game (besides their BCS bowl, possibly), but mid-tier Big 10 teams will get one. Money talks...

BTW, I'm referring to after the new deal kicks in. Currently, the ACC and Big East have the Gator Bowl, but that deal ends after this year and it is replaced with the Champs Sports Bowl, which will match up the Big East #2 vs. the ACC #3, just like the current Gator Bowl deal.

Yeah I cant wait for a 6-6 Big 10 team to play a C-USA team on New Years day, stop wasting our time creating all these bowls and give us a playoff.

Re: Yet another Bowl: The Dallas Football Classic

Getting a bowl game has become as prestigious as earning a diploma from kindergarten.

Re: Yet another Bowl: The Dallas Football Classic

1979
96 teams - 15 bowls

2009
120 teams - 35 bowls (Dallas Football Classic will make 36)

I'd say that's a bit out of hand but considering it hinders a playoff...I'm all for it.

Then again, Georgia finished 2nd in the SEC and didn't even go bowling back in 1979.

31.25% of teams got to go to a bowl in 1979.

In 2009, almost 60% will (58.33% to be exact).

How is this not idiotic? (hypothetical)

And if I read you right, you don't want a playoff? ...Why?
