You won by 8 points...so its not like you ran through us like ATF would like to believe. And you also gave VT a chance at the end.

The two toughest games on AU's schedule and you managed to win by a combined score of 26-22. And yet you jump down my throat for thinking Auburn won with defense that year..

There's a big difference between running through someone and almost losing. For Auburn to lose, they'd have to give up an onside kick, 60+ yards of offense in 1 minute with 1 timeout. After giving up the 60 yards in a minute and a touchdown, they'd then have to give up a 2 point conversion.

Then they'd have to lose in overtime.

VT had a chance...to go from down 10 to down 3.

That's not at all what you said.

Auburn won the LSU game with defense. Auburn won the Sugar Bowl with defense.

If you would have stopped there, I wouldn't have said anything, but you didn't stop there. Auburn dominated UT and UGA on offense, defense, special teams, coaching, pregame warmups, and any other measurement you want to use. Saying Auburn won those games with defense is either stupidity or revisionist history.

We D-O-M-I-N-A-T-E-D the Turds in the second half. The Turds had the ball inside our 10 yard line 3 times in the first half and came away with a whopping 6 points.

Once AU got their act together in the second half...it was over. Done.

AU controlled the Sugar Bowl from start to finish as well. A couple of late scores by VT made the game seem much more perilous than it actually was.

The ONLY game where AU was challenged in the 4th quarter was the LSU game. That's it.

On a side note...a Crimson Turd fan's opinion on 2004 Auburn is automatically null and void for obvious reasons.

IIRC, the Iron Bowl, 'Bama outplayed Auburn in the first half, and was up or it was tight at half time. In the second half, Auburn controlled the game and came away with a 8 point win.

Is that how it went down?

Re: Top Undefeated Teams of the Decade?

Didn't USC fly clear across the country and beat Va. Tech soundily the same year Auburn barely edged Va. Tech in SEC country?

Didn't 2004 OU shutout 2004 Texas which was pretty much the same team as 2005 Texas?

Despite that, 2005 Texas was extremely lucky to beat the 2005 version of USC. It took USC making stupid mistakes, see the Bush lateral, and uncharacteristically bad coaching calls, see Carroll going for it on 4th and 2. USC's had an off game and Vince Young played the best game of his life. Even with all the errors by USC and stupid coaching decisions, it still took Texas until the last seconds to pull out a victory.

There is no way 2005 Texas could have beaten 2004 USC when 2004 USC was clicking. Heck, Texas barely beat 2005 USC when they were playing like crap.

I'm sticking to my guns that 2001 Miami was the best team of the decade followed by 2004 USC. After those two 2005 Texas and 2004 Auburn are in the mix.

Who did 2004 Auburn beat OOC. The Citadel, La. Tech, and Louis-Monroe? LMAO. You guys really think this is the best team of the decade? If you look at Auburn's schedule that year none of the wins really stand out. After the pathetic OOC it reads with wins over Kentucky, Arkansas, Miss., Miss. State, Bama, etc.

If Auburn only beat Va. Tech by 3 in the Sugar bowl, I'm not sure why people think they would have beaten a USC team that was clicking on all cylinders in the Orange Bowl.

SC played a tight game with Vtech in to open the season in 04. SC dominated the 2nd half though. VT only got like 2 first downs and Leinart was like 12 for 14 in the second half.

No, USC played Va Tech at the Redskins Stadium I believe and it was a fairly tight contest.

Also, USC that same year played a woeful UCLA at UCLA and held on in the final minutes to win...the EXACT SAME scenario as Auburn playing a woeful Bama at Bama and coming away with the win. Yet we get hosed for "only beating them by a small margin" while the talking heads praised USC for a "gutsy performance in a hostile rivalry game".

Go figure.

USC didn't play VT in 05. In 05 USC opened the season vs. Hawaii.

To be honest though, that USC/UCLA game was never in question. Score was closer than the game was.

USC vs. VT was in Fed Ex field, and it wa a home game for VT basically, and it was also 3 time zones away in the wrong direction for USC's home.
