Rumored ACC Realignment

There is a rumor floating around that the ACC wants to realign the divisions. Boston College and Georgia Tech would switch divisions leaving us with

Atlantic
Clemson
FSU
GT
Maryland
NC State
Wake

Coastal
BC
Duke
Miami
UNC
UVA
VT

This would cut down on Tech's travel expenses immensely and not really effect Boston College all that much. I'd rather not have them in the division for football but the moves makes a lot of sense.

Re: Rumored ACC Realignment

The reason why they aligned these things this way was to set it up so Mia & FSU would play each other in the finals. Has that happened? No. I want my rivalries back.

UNC
NCSt
Wake
dook
Clem
GT

FSU
Mia(FL)
UVa
VT
MD
BC

Re: Rumored ACC Realignment

I've heard about the realignment, too. If they are doing it to justify travel costs then swapping Miami and Maryland would make just as much sense as swapping BC and GT, but I doubt they ever get Miami and FSU to agree to be in the same division for football.

Smart move, is this in any way related to FSU's mishaps?

Also gives the Maryland's, NC State's etc a chance to play in the title game.

Why? In what way does it affect them? They still play each other once in the year. & they haven't been dominating the conference like everyone thought. It doesn't make since for everybody else to have to deal w/all the travel to appease those 2. Especially when realignment was done to please mainly those 2.

I want to see the old rivalries back. Has the SEC been hurt because Auburn & Bama are in the same division? Florida & Georgia? I understood the "logic" when they did this @ the beginning. Though I didn't agree w/it even back then. But the landscape has changed. They should align things were they make more since & gain back some of the tradition. Especially if they are looking to change things anyway.

Re: Rumored ACC Realignment

Why would they move BC into VT's division? The two conference powers should be in opposite divisions.

Just remember that was a big concern when Miami came in a few years ago that those two teams didn't want to be in the same division with each other. Doesn't make any difference to me really and it isn't like the world of college football won't go on without the traditional big time rivalry games like UNC vs. Wake and NC State vs. Duke like they had in the pre-expansion era.

Re: Rumored ACC Realignment

I wish we could go back circa 2004 and keep Miami/BC in the Big East, Cincy/Louisville/SFU in the C-USA...It would make B-Ball a bit more exciting (at least in the current non-existent C-USA now as Cincy, UofL, Memphis and Marquette would be battling right now) and beef up the Big East again in football. It wasn't broken when they changed things but look at it now...

Re: Rumored ACC Realignment

Sure they wanted FSU and Miami to meet each year but they also didn't want to break up the North Carolina teams.

The "world of college football" be damned. The original realignment was settled on w/the promise of new prominence for the ACC in football.

Promise: unkept

The ACC has regressed, in fact.

And I don't expect a VT fan to care about the ACC, pre-expansion, because they weren't a member then. But for we fans that grew up here, that this is all we know, give us back what we had. At least peak the local interest if they can't keep the nation's attention.
