Honestly, I think it's the other fans' reactions that are getting to me more than anything. Like I'm a bad fan or not a true fan because I point out stuff that isn't going on or only look at the positive.
Nothing wrong with being a realist. As bad as Notre Dame was last year, I expected more of the same this year, so I just cheer them on. Which is cool in a way, having no expectations. Not that I want that to be the case long term, but it sure makes the San Diego STate and Navy games exciting.

I look at it like this, with elite programs, you are in a win/win situation as long as you don't hit that point of no return and your team totally breaks down like a Nebraska where you weatch teams like Missouri and Kansas rise up and pass you within years of being one of the greatest football machines ever.

Its a win/win because if the current coach does bad, he'll be fired and a new one should come in with a relatively stocked cupboard and a brand name to deal with. If you win, you win.

The problem comes if you fall into mediocrity, lose the brand name, and can't recruit. I don't think Miami is to that point yet.

P2K, as a Cane brother and someone who's gone through this already lemme say "breathe".

To me the mid 90's were the worst stretch of my life. The U getting blown out by 40+ points. I remember the FSU players saying, "That aint the Canes over there...the uniforms are the same but nothing else".

After Erickson drove the Porshe into a tree (a lot like Coker) we had some real problems. Most of us hated the Butch Davis hire at the time. I really thought it was over. ANd the thing you gotta remember is that the Canes of the late 80's, early 90's were the brashest bunch of players you'll ever see. The relished the fact that everyone called 'em convicts. So it was much more painful going from that great, and arrogant, to the bottom.

Then came 1998 and something happened. When we beat #2 UCLA and Cade McNoun everything changed. It was the beginning of something. You could feel it. I don't think we'll even be in a position for that for a year or two.

The difference is that it took Davis a while to get recruiting going after the NCAA rulings. Shannon had quite a haul last year. Give him 2 more, then pass judgement. I'm not saying he'll do it, but give him a chance.
We still need a QB anyway. I think Marve is crap, although the experts tell me I'm wrong, which I hope I am.

The good news is that parity is everywhere in college football so it may be quicker this time.

Just breathe.

If Michigan can fall from grace than nobody is safe.

Thanks, man. I have no problems with Shannon at the moment. He's still learning on the job. It's Nix I have the major problem with. I guess a problem I have with Shannon is that he do something about Nix.

Yeah, but they're going through a coaching change.

TO answer the OP, you handle it as best you can. Realizing that the talent is there, it just takes time to gel. Most of these kids come from winning programs, and when they lose back to back games for the first time ever, or lose a big game that they normally win, they dont know how to react. You have to hope they dont give up or go in a downward spiral. Miami (unfortunately, says the Noles fan) will be back at some point. Look at Nebraska, FSU, UM, Michigan, Notre Dame, Alabama, etc. They all are going through or went through some dark years

Its tough seeing your team struggle. As a Michigan fan I haven't had to deal with a season like this before. But I have faith in what Rich Rodriguez is doing with the program but I agree after games like the Toledo game, it makes you question if the team is going in the right direction.

Heh, I've been a Longtime Red Sox Patriots and Longhorns fan. All those teams have gone through stretches where it was very frustrating to watch, and stretches where there were the best. That is why people become fans of certain teams, you take the lows so you can feel the highs. Almost like a drug addiction.

Like there's much difference between the mid-90's Canes and the current ones? Although it would be fun to beat them 47-0 again.
