Lets all welcome 4* RB Chris Thompson to the FSU Class of 2009. Helluva an addition to the class, thank god we have Jimbo Fisher keeping these kids in Tallahassee.

If D'Antonio can't pull some big names out of the state this season then he is never going to. Its going to take RRod and staff at least a year to break ground with the High School coaches ect. MSU should pull in a really good in state class this season.

I'm not buying into the early commitments. As far as I'm concerned MSU has none until signing day. If MSU falters next season these guys will go elsewhere. I also don't buy into Hot Rod needing time to recruit the state. That winged helmet recruits itself, but over the last couple years, Michigan seems to have lost favor with the cream of the crop from the state of Michigan. I think its because kids just want to get away from this state, its always depressing in the winter, but the economy is making it depressing all year round now.

Oh no doubt the Tradition of Michigan recruits itself but I think you are underestimating the importance of building relationships with coaches in the recruiting process. The more they know and trust a certain coach the more likely they are going to sway a kid to that school.

D'Antonio has built that trust already as he has been recruiting this state for many years. RRod and staff on the other hand really have no one other than the LC hold overs that really have any experience recruiting the state of Michigan and imo thats a huge advantage for MSU especially this year. Not saying that MSU is gonna be the favorite over UM for these kids but I think it will put them on an even playing field.

As for Michigan losing the top rated players in state. If we were losing them to someone besides USC I would be worried, but since they pretty much pick and choose whoever they want what can you do.

Trust is going to be a major issue with Rodriguez there. His character has definitely come into question nationally over the past few months and I'm not saying that just as a WVU fan. I don't know that he'll be good at recruiting in the area around Michigan. Most of his players will probably come from the southeast. Seems as if that's where most of the speed guys come from and that's what he likes. I think the Michigan name alone will lure a lot of in state talent but he will focus a lot on Louisiana and Florida in my opinion.

He better be able to recruit the Midwest if he is going to be successful at Michigan. It's going to be tough to consistently pull top players out of the Southeast to come up North and freeze their but off in Ann Arbor.

The state of Florida seems like it is as open as it's been in decades. It is amazing how many of the Top 10 players left the state. Off the top of my head, Patrick Johnson went to LSU, Michael Brewster to Ohio State, Jamie Harper to Clemson, and Corey Liuget to Illinois. Before that C.J. Spiller left to go to Clemson and Noel Devine to West Virginia.

I hope it is a bit different this year, well at least for FSU.

Well, we know why PJ went to L$U.

And Liuget's family wanted him out of Florida completely. Their agenda was really pushed when one of his best friends got cut down a week before NSD. I can't argue with their thinking.

That's true but he doesn't have many recruiting connections there and none of the coaches he took to Michigan from WVU do either.
