LOL, apparently Les Miles showed up at Seminole High School in Sanford, Florida in a helicopter.

Who is this Gholston I hear about? Does MSU have a chance with him?

William Gholston, Vernon's cousin. MSU leads for him now (they offered first, and Dantonio was the one that recruited Vernon to Ohio State), with Michigan in 2nd. OSU hasn't gotten involved yet (and OSU fans can't seem to understand why). The thought process at this point is that he could commit to MSU at any point, but if he doesn't, the door is definitely open for Michigan to make a move (or for the Buckeyes to get involved).

His team (Detroit Southeastern) beat Cass Tech last week.

Thanks, what's his projected position?

Any other decent recruits looking at MSU?

Like his cousin, he's still raw, just a physical specimen right now. He could range anywhere from a defensive end or a tight end to an outside linebacker/rush end or he could even grow into an offensive tackle.

And MSU's looking good for quite a few in-staters next year. Dantonio deserves credit, he has really hit the recruiting trail hard instate, something Johnelle never did. MSU's probably going to land the #1 player in the state next year (Austin White, RB from Livonia). Both of his parents are Spartans, and both of his brothers are on the football team now. It'll be a major upset if he goes anywhere but State.

MSU will probably get Robert Bolden too, 6'4 QB from OLSM (same school as Dion Sims, who is a silent commit to MSU right now). Bolden and Devin Gardner of Inkster are both 6'4ish duel-threat QBs for next year, and Michigan has only offered Gardner at this point. If Bolden was going to be a UM target, he'd probably have an offer by now. I suspect UM will focus solely on Gardner, and with Sims going to East Lansing, it would make sense for Bolden to follow.

Most of that is just speculation though, and after that it's still too early to tell. Both UM and MSU have commitments from 2010 recruits that will be top 10 in-state (Bullough for MSU, Jackson for UM). MSU has the inside track on Gholston and White. Michigan will probably have the inside track on Chelsea RB Nick Hill if they want him (he grew up a UM fan I believe), and they've apparently completed erased Miami's lead on CB Dior Mathis (and Cass Tech is pretty much a no fly zone for MSU anyway). And then there're the two QBs, which if I had to guess at the moment, UM and MSU would split, Gardner to UM and Bolden to MSU.

Obviously still lots of time (what, 16 months until signing day 2010?), but it looks like Michigan and MSU might finally be keeping the in-state talent at home. Still sickens me to look at the Rivals top 10 from 2007 and see 5 of the top 6 and 6 of the top 10 playing out of state.

Re: 2009 Recruiting Thread

Meyer gets commits from other schools to commit to UF because he is a dirty recruiter. He tells recruits that they won't play if they go to some other school, and says they will star on his team. What a queer

Re: 2009 Recruiting Thread

i never said that no one else does it. I just said he does it, and so does guys like Jim Tressel, Bobby Bowden (or whoever is actually running that program) and more. Besides, only a retard would kick a FG with 26 secs. left when your team is winning by 20.
