Re: 2009 Recruiting Thread

Apparently USC has several players committed who are on everyone's Top whatever lists. I guess we'll see what happens, NSD is a long ways off.

The big coup was Matt Barkley the kid from Mater Dei. Same school that produced, Matt Leinart and Colt Brennan. Apparently Barkley is also the first non-senior to win the Gatorade National Football Player of the Year award. He also apperently started at Mater Dei as a freshman. Which is unheard of at that particular school.

The others I don't know much about. Patrick Hall is supposed to be a heck of an athlete. He comes from perennial state power St. Boneventure. School puts out a lot of kids IIRC.

You guys also got T.J. McDonald, son of one of my favorite players, Tim McDonald.

Miami is going after his teammate, CB Cliff Harris.

Cliff is definitely on the radar. Wouldn't shock me if he was landed at all.

The staff wants a Pac10 DB. (Pac10 DBs are good, just in the offensive happy they are overlooked nationally until the pros come knocking).

Also, with seemingly a new pipeline into Kansas football with Brian Butler, the 'Canes are looking to swim in the fields of corn this year on a few of Mr. Butler's kids.

Wingo is a guy we need to land definitely, he doesn't go to East St. Louis though so he won't be a package with either of their WRs, Wingo plays for St. Louis University High School.

Mizzou fans seem to think they lead for him but from what I've heard Illinois is ahead of Mizzou for now, Wingo's dad is close with our assistant head coach Reggie Mitchell and Wingo loved watching our offense this year due to he views himself as a RB like Mendenhall. He prefers Illinois run first system to Mizzous pass first, he didn't like how Tony Temple was utilized there.

I like Ford to, watched him quite a bit in high school. Very good runner, good vision but he lacks that extra gear once he gets out into the open field.

Great start for our 09 class, Hill is the #45 player in the country by Rivals, Buckner always plays with great energy and just manhandles people, and Fellows looks like a beast on film, if we can hold onto him (talk is he'll be an early enrollee) until December/January I expect he'll be a very good DE for us but it'll be a fight with tOSU still going after him.

Also talk that Ricky Harris 6'2 305 C from Westerville, Ohio should be committing to us in the not too distant future.

Shepard said the situation at Texas opens up his recruitment for other suitors.

“I would say Texas is still up there, but Michigan is really at the top of my list, especially if they don’t get (2008 top recruit) Terrelle Pryor,” he said. “I feel like I could go there and play right away. I’m also looking at Florida and LSU. Both of those schools have pretty good depth-chart situations for me.”

At least Texas was straight with him. A lot of coaches would tell him what he wants to hear when they plan on moving him to another position after he signs.

I'd imagine Gilbert committing to Texas has something to do with that.

Also, seriously, a good depth chart situation at Florida? What, behind Tebow, Newton and Brantley???

i know man. I dont understand that either. That is probably one of the most loaded QB depth charts in the nation.

it's not suprising that Michigan will be on his short list. I dont know how this kid compares to Pryor but i imagine he's probably close to him talent wise.

That's Tim McDonald's kid?

Tim McDonald was a trained killer back there. I wonder if his kid has that same nasty streak.
