Re: 2009 Recruiting Thread

Illinois picked up a big commitment today, 4 star QB Nathan Scheelhaase (#7 dual threat QB in the country) chose the Illini over Oklahoma, Nebraska, Missouri, Kansas, and Iowa.

Scheelhaase is from Kansas City so I figured it'd be tough to pry him away from Oklahoma (figured we'd stand a good chance against Mizzou due to they got Gabbert last year) but beating out Oklahoma I thought would be nearly impossible. Scheelhaase father played at Iowa with Bob Stoops back in the day so thats a big tie there, even Iowa I thought might give us problems being as a few coaches are still there from when Scheelhaase dad played there, but Scheelhaase just loved the school and the coaching staff at Illinois.

Anyway big pickup for us and hopefully it really gets the ball rolling for this class. It'd be great to lockup the star WR's from East St. Louis now Kraig Appleton and Terry Hawthorne (both 4 stars), then add in a RB like Ronnie Wingo (4 star) or David Oku (4 star) and that is the start of an awesome class. Scheelhaase is close friends with Appleton and Wingo so this should definitely help us there and Hawthorne is an Illinois lean for now anyway.

Re: 2009 Recruiting Thread

Nice to see Penn State making some headway in the recruiting game early in the recruiting season. Eric Shrive is a 4-star on Rivals (and number 5 at his position) and a 5-star on Scout. Absolutely need to get a RB though, it seems. I like the guy they got (Curtis Dukes), but he's only a 2-star on rivals, so we'll see.

Re: 2009 Recruiting Thread

Florida landed 2010 offensive lineman Ian Silberman.

Oh, and he's planning on recruiting for Florida...guess what he had to say to one of the guys he's starting with...

Quote:
"I talked to Trent Richardson. He's unreal. He said he's a soft commitment to Alabama. I was telling him that Nick Saban won't be there that long. He needs go ahead and commit to the Gators."
And boom goes the dynamite.

Yeah that's huge. I hear he's definitely ahead of where Juice was going into his senior year in high school. Some comparisons say he's kind of a cross between Chris Leak and Dennis Dixon. Big, strong, and fast. I guess he went to Iowa and watched their practices/camps/etc and wasn't all too impressed by their skill players and their line around him, then he came to Illinois and saw the difference. Deciding factor right there. I also hear that Hawthorne and Appleton might make a decision as early as this week, but likely before the start of their senior seasons. Both have Illinois leans. Like you said those would be huge. And Wingo is good, don't get me wrong, but I REALLY want Oku. Even though he's not really a between-the-tackles kind of runner, he's more of an outsider, I still think he is a special talent. But yeah like you said I hope Scheelhaase gets the ball rolling for other big time recruits

Re: 2009 Recruiting Thread

Florida State picked up commitment #13 from 4* DT Demonte McAllister and commitment #14 from 3* OL John Prior out of Ohio. This is could kick of a run of commitments in the next couple of weeks.
