Re: 2009 Recruiting Thread

I looked at MSU's rivals page today. 5 of their 6 commits are 4* and ranked in the top 250. Absolutely shocking. They normally only get 1 or 2 top 250 players in an entire class. These are all in-state players so it looks like Coach D is taking advantage of the Hot Rod/Lloyd transition @ U of M.

I doubt that that has much to do with it. This is an up year for instate talent, MSU is bound to get some, and while the transition at UM probably factors in, it should've been a bigger factor last recruiting period when basically every team in the Big Ten tried to poach UM's recruits and only Iowa got one (while Michigan stole 3).

You guys got like two kids that were offered by the new staff which would be Norman and Baker.
Caper is vastly overated I watched him get shut down by Jackson Lumen Christi in the playoffs last year.
Treadwall is in your guys backyard so I wouldnt have expected to be in on him.
Maxwell who isnt rated doesnt fit U of M style.
Baker is a beast I have seen him play and Norman looks like an excellent LB so good job there.
MSU will be able to clean up on pro style QB's and Bigger/Slower RB because of the change of scheme due to RichRod.

Not trying to bury you but you make it seem like you guys outright jacked players from us when it wasnt the case you guys got two guys who were offered by the new staff

I don't care how State got them, I'm just glad that top 250 recruits are looking there again. Bottom line is that because Michigan State runs more of a pro style offense than Michigan they should be more attractive to certain types of players, mainly QB's Receivers, TE's, and pass blocking linemen. And the fact that State got 2 250 players that Michigan offered is pretty big too. Thats been pretty rare in recent years.

Your assessment about the bigger slower RB is a bit inaccurate. Dantonio uses a Thunder/Lightening system. The Big Back will get most of the TD's, but he prefers have a speed back like Ringer get at least half of the carries. The RB screen is a big pat of his gameplan and that doesn't work too well with the big lumbering back.

I never assesed how you use your running backs I stated that you guys would be able to clean up on the bigger RB that Michigan will now steer clear most of the time. I always chalk up State pulling 2 to 3 players a year that Michigan or me myself would love to have just the nature of the beast

Well with the 99% chance Riddick chooses ND over RU I can only hope Rutgers can start nailing some of the upper tier talent they offered.

Jeremy Brown 6' 200lb committed to OSU yesterday but...

Quote:
It was reported earlier Tuesday by JCFootball.com that Jeremy Brown, from Pierce College in Woodlands Hills, Calif., had committed to Oklahoma State. That report, however, does not appear to be true since the Oklahoma State coaching staff does not know who the 6-0, 200-pound cornerback is and has never offered a scholarship, Pierce head coach Efrain Martinez confirmed Tuesday afternoon.
