1. Big Will's parents are a major factor in his life. They're not over-bearing or controlling like Jamarkus McFarland's mom, but they're very close to Will and have been a part of this process all along.

2. Unlike Ronald Johnson's situation, there is a united front with Will. RoJo's mom was overbearing to the point that RoJo wanted to escape. When Michigan tried connecting with RoJo late through the Muskegon coach, RoJo's mom went off the rails. There was a major fracture between the mother and the coaches with RoJo. That isn't the case here. Big Will's parents are very solidly in the Michigan camp here. They want their boy to go to Michigan.

3. Big Will's mom accompanied him to Alabama and LSU. She did NOT go with him to Florida or Miami. At LSU, she was turned off because the LSU coaches basically blew her off when she kept pressing them about the academics and how they'd take care of Will if he chose them.

4. Taking all that into account...does it seem like Will would go somewhere his parents don't approve of (LSU) or have never seen before (Florida, Miami)?

5. Now, about the video...sure, it's concerning. But everybody that's been close to Will since his recruitment began got the sense that he would always keep things close to the vest. He's a typical teen. He likes to play games with people to keep them guessing. He wanted this to be a surprise right down to the end.

6. Now, it seems like his hand may have been initially tipped with the Michigan online directory thing. That, combined with the fact that Michigan was always the team to beat, would seem to spoil any sense of drama for him. So what's the easiest way to inject some drama into this? "Eliminate" Michigan, say you probably won't go there...and then pull the swerve by pulling the Michigan hat out when you announce.

Like I said, nothing is in stone. Nothing ever is...but the optimism that every person close to Will has had since this began was not dampened by this. More info will come out during the week...but this is not the end.

Allen and Barksdale were never UM's to lose like RoJo was, though. Allen grew up a Seminole, and the moment Carr and company told Barksdale he was going to be an OT instead of a DT, he shut Michigan down and ended up at LSU.....as an OT.

Re: 2009 Recruiting Thread

I love recruiting.

I agree with psy's post. It's nothing like Rojo in the sense he doesn't have a control-freak mom. It does seem weird considering the source the guys at Michigan's rival site spoke with was blown away by the fact Michigan was eliminated. I think it may be a kid trying to play up the drama, someone close to him said he may put on some weird hat at the AA game just to joke around with everyone. I'm not confident he's going to Michigan it's up in the air obviously...but I don't buy that Michigan is out of this. Who knows. Beaver was "on his way" then a week later went to Tulsa. Following recruiting is such a love-hate thing. It's a big part of the sport because it has a major impact on how your favorite school(s) will fare in the future, but I hate the drama and lying involved.

Re: 2009 Recruiting Thread

This Will Campbell situation has the silly Petey Carroll inspired hat switcheroo written all over it. He'll put on a Miami cap with a Michigan hat inside of it. "Suprise!" and we'll all laugh. It will be a real knee slapper.

These silly teen agers, you never know what they'll pull next.

Re: 2009 Recruiting Thread

I'm saying it right now..

D.J. Fluker will be the next Alabama player to win the Outland Trophy.

Here's a quote from one of Rivals' main guys from the Army AA Game Practice..

"DJ Fluker should call Roger Goodell and tell him to ______off, I'm going straight to the NFL."

Re: 2009 Recruiting Thread

CB Michael Carter will choose between Minnesota and West Virginia after this year's Under Armour All American Game. He has dropped Florida from what I've heard and I like WVU's chances going up against the Golden Gophers.

Also, junior college prospect out of Hawaii, Tevita Finau, has signed his letter of intent to play for the Mountaineers.

Re: 2009 Recruiting Thread

Brennan Williams, OL from Mass., says he will choose between his top 2, BC & UNC this weekend @ San Antonio. BC is probably the favorite. But UNC is making a big push. Hopefully, the Carolina commits already in SA will convince him.
