2009-10 Texas Longhorns Thread

Might as well start it up as Spring Practice is in full swing.

Key Losses:

B. Orakpo
R. Miller
Q. Cosby

No question, a major strength of Texas was the DLine. But Sergio Kindle is expected to anchor what may be an even faster unit, although somewhat less powerful.

In spring practice where Blake Gideon, last years freshman starter at safety has been sitting out due to injury, Christian Scott has really caught the attention of Muschamp. Scott is bigger and faster than Gideon, and is believed to be the biggest hitter of the unit. Gideon is the son of a coach, and was breaking tape with his dad while in middle school. As a frosh he was making the on-field adjustments for the D, which shows how much the coaching staff respected his smarts. 1530am reported that Scott may in fact replace Gideon as a starter, although Gideon will still see plenty of action, especially in nickel.

The offense is in great hands with Colt McCoy. Everyone knows about him. The loss of Cosby is big, as he was one of McCoys favorite targets. Look for freshman Robert Timmons, the top WR prospect in Texas last year to immediately see action to help out Jordan Shipley.

Mack Brown has made no secret of his desire to incorporate a power running set to compliment the fast break spread offense that has been in such favor with the Big 12 recently. Antoine Cobb will be the starting FB and has been drawing praise from coach Brown for his aggresive hitting style. In this package Cody Johnson is expected to be the starting HB although he recently suffered an injury which will sideline him the rest of SP.

Texas OOC schedule is a joke. The neutral site date with 0U, and road games at Okie State, and at Baylor being the only games of worry for me. Tech is rebuilding, ditto for Mizzou. The jury is still out on the Aggies, but bad vibes seem to be coming from College Station.

I believe the Horns to go undefeated and play for the MNC.

I also expect Colt McCoy to win the Heisman.

I love it. Horn and Cowboy predictions of greatness and championships provide more than enough entertainment. If it wasn't for Texas/Dallas homers like you, this place would be boring.

I look forward to the inevitable thread about Colt McCoy being the greatest player ever, and how anyone who disagrees is a hater.

Re: 2009-10 Texas Longhorns Thread

Pretty bold predictions for a team that has one conference championship in the past decade.

OU returns Bradford, Gresham, Murray, Brown, Broyles, and Trent Williams on offense. On defense OU will have 9 starters back including Gerald McCoy who was a projected top 5 pick had he gone pro.

Being an OU fan I know that a collection of talent on paper doesn't win you anything. That being said, I think the Sooners will have a shot at being ok next season.

Texas goes to Okie State next year. That could be a difficult game.

Once again the game in Dallas should be interesting, McCoy is a great player.

It's a ways off, but we beat you last year. And we return much more than you do. Also, it is kind of odd, but Texas goes into the game with a chip on its shoulder despite winning last year.

I do like SB, but it will be fun to see how he performs with a new OLine. You return 9 on defense. Your defense wasn't very good so I don't see that as much of a benefit.
Texas schedule is very weak so we must go undefeated to stay ahead of y'all. If we both have one loss, no question you will jump over us on style points.

p.s. Boomer Sooner!! Beat the hell outta Carowhina!!

I am very interested to see how Malcolm Williams has progressed. Spring game is April 5th at 2:30. It's usually on FSN.

Williams is going to be a stud.

OU still has weapons on offense.

OU's defense is going to be better than last year but the offense won't be as good. That being said, I'll trade a little of the offense for a better defense.

Re: 2009-10 Texas Longhorns Thread

It's going to be interesting watching the Texas defense. They lose Orakpo and Miller but are still going to be loaded on paper, and it's the first time in like 8 seasons that Texas has been able to keep the same defensive coordinator and not have to change systems. The continuity will make a difference.

It will be one of the most talented defenses Mack Brown has had at Texas, and it should show on the field because Muschamp is such a good creative coach with quality experience and again because of the continuity.

I think you forgot about the fact that Jesus will finally return to earth this year and he will pledge allegiance to the Texas Long Horns.

Every sports season we go through this, the Prediction that a Texas team will win a championship. Nothing against the Long Horns, Im sure they will be very good but these predictions are getting tired.
