Well of course Saban took full responsibilty for the loss, but clearly the players didn't have the right attitude going into this game. Saban told them over, and over again that Utah was a good team. I understand the players being broken hearted over not getting to play for the National Championship, but instead of putting that behind them they compounded their misery by losing to Utah. A valuable lesson is to be learned from this game. Comfort can be found in losing knowing that you gave your best, but when you lose like Alabama did last night there is no comfort to be found. Saban will remind them of this loss everyday. Woody Hayes once said that there's nothing that cleanses the soul like getting the hell kicked out of you. I have to say that I agree with him!

He's done a fine job at Bama but it's apparent they aren't quite ready for prime time. But they don't seem too far off either.
I'm all for a football first guy, and I like Saban's intensity and I too think he's done a fine job for the most part. If what the reporter was saying true though I would much rather he did not say things like that. First of all, it's plain disrespectful and it's not a good example to set for all those impressionable minds in his charge. It encourages arrogance in the players. It gives extra motivation to your opponent when you disregard them like that. Even though he said over and over again how much he respected Utah, it only takes one comment like that to turn everything against you. I would still rather have him than not, I just hope he chooses his words better.

We weren't ready this year. I was happy with the way the season went for the most part, we have some good players, but we have little to back them up, in other words we have no depth, and that's been a talking point since before the first game. It would be nice one day to have the kind of team like USC or Florida has, where you can make almost any sub you want and not miss a beat.

Re: "Fear the Process!" 2009 Alabama Crimson Tide

Like I said earlier someone was really hunting for some bb material to find that Saban quote because I have heard him say nothing, but good things about any of Alabama's opponents in the two years he has been in T-town. Trust me, I haven't missed maybe 1, or 2 of his press conferences. I think he does a job for the most part, and he handles the media better than I would! Some of the questions they ask make them look like complete morons, and then they try to bait him into saying something. No doubt about it Saban is one intense dude, but I guess if you guys want a nice guy we could try to rehire Mike Shula!

Re: 2009 Alabama Crimson Tide

As if there were any doubt this would happen...

Quote:
Alabama offensive tackle Andre Smith made it official Saturday when he announced through a Montgomery, Ala., law firm that he was leaving school early to enter the NFL draft. Smith, the 2008 Outland Trophy winner, was suspended for the Crimson Tide's Allstate Sugar Bowl loss to Utah amid allegations that he or someone on his behalf had improper dealings with an agent.

Smith's statement was not released through the University of Alabama, but rather through the Montgomery, Ala., law firm of Thomas, Means, Gillis & Seay. Smith, one of the best left tackles to come through the SEC in the last decade, said he arrived at his decision through much prayer and counseling with his parents and coach.

It was expected all along that Smith would declare for the draft. He's projected as the No. 2 overall pick in the latest mock draft by ESPN's Todd McShay. But Smith said soon after being suspended that he hadn't ruled out returning for his senior season.

Smith's statement read: "I value deeply the opportunity I've had to play for s uch a prestigious program and to have the support of such a prolific coach in Nick Saban. After much consideration, I am proud to announce my intent to become eligible for the next National Football League draft. Alabama football will always hold a special place in my heart."

The deadline for underclassmen to declare for the NFL draft is Jan. 15.

Best of luck to you Andre in the NFL! Its just a shame that your time at Alabama had to end the way it did.
