I was also thinking maybe he played for Larry in the NBA, but I don't think so.
He also is advancing as a coach, and Calipari wished him the best of luck, so he isn't too upset.

Well it's official now. Larry Brown is now the head coach of SMU

Do you really care where I sent this from?

Strickland was an assistant coach, but after a DUI in April of 2010, was demoted from the position. He was still on staff, but not one of the three main assistants (those being Robic, Payne, and Antigua). So this would be a promotion for him. Plus, Cal is part of the Larry Brown coaching tree, so I'm sure Cal told Rod this would be a tremendous opportunity for him.

Per Chris Miller of CSN Washington...

I can confirm Virginia Tech has fired Seth Greenberg. School will make it official at a 4pm press conference

Good. Honestly I never thought it'd happen just because we're a football school and I figured the AD would be happy with mediocrity from the basketball program.

You obviously weren't here during the times of true mediocrity, then.

Greenberg took over a team that couldn't compete in the A-10 or the Big East, and made them competitive in the ACC. He had more wins in 9 years than the three previous coaches had in 12.

He deserved better than a hastily thrown together news conference and being fired over a poor relationship with an underpaid staff.

Damn at least have the courtesy to tell him before scheduling the press conference. Who do they expect to hire now after every perspective coach knows they may get fired and have the press know about it before the AD tells them.

Re: 2012 Coaching Carousel

Kentucky signed assistants John Robic, Orlando Antigua, and Kenny Payne to multi-year extensions. Kentucky also amended Cal's contract to give him an 8.3% pay raise annually and a $1 million retention bonus due in July 2015.

The contract would make Cal the fourth highest paid coach in the NBA. So why would he go back to the professional ranks? He's already being paid like one.

Might want to try something different if he manages to get Kentucky hit by sanctions (can never rule it out with Cal).

That said I don't think the NCAA will touch him while he's at Kentucky, they don't want to hurt one of their major cash cows.
