From the article I read today, the possible violations happened before Cal got to UK. So evidently nothing will stain Cal.

John Wall has been cleared to play. He must set out an exhibition game and the season opener. He also must repay $800 in restitution.

Not surprised at all by the ruling.
Glad to have this ruled on and to get the season started.
Did I see that Sydney got minimum punishment as well? SEC is going to be infinitely better than last year all the way around.

I was wrong about Sydney, they haven't ruled yet but it looks like a decision could come early next week.

I haven't seen Sydney's punishment.
And as you know, I'm not a UK fan in the slightest, however, I'm glad that they didn't blow this thing completely out of proportion. I think what they did was fair and proper.
And if I just heard correctly on sportstalk radio, he'll play Monday but sit out the next exhibition game and then the opener.

I'm not saying whether Wall did anything wrong or right.
But I don't see how making someone sit out an exhibition game would be a future deterrent to future preps.

I actually agree. I thought it was odd to sit out one exhibition and one regular season. Would have definitely thought it would have been all regular season games.
countryboy, I am happy it wasn't much worse, but people that know things knew the worst they were getting was 10% of the games which would have been 3, maybe 4. I am happy it is only what it is. And I believe he sits out Monday and then the season opener against Morehead State.

So what have we learned this week, kiddies? If you do something legal, but hide it (Dez Bryant), you essentialy lose your college elgibility. If you, evidently, do something illegal (John Wall), but own up to it when you're caught, you have to go to study hall.

I think that is a little unfair to say that Wall did something illegal. AAU coaches are allowed to do what Clifton did, just unfortunately for Wall, Clifton was also a certified agent at the time and therefore what Clifton did was illegal.

That's what I mean by illegal. Its against the NCAA rules. In reality, Clifton did nothing wrong. Its OK to offer, that's why he's not punished. He's getting his $800 back. Wall accepted, that's why he's penalized.
Keep in mind, I'm not saying there's anything immoral about any of it. I think the no money rule is archaic.
My point is that the NCAA administers their business hypocritically, unfairly, & arbitrarily. There's no way anyone could justify the 2 punishments if they lined up the crimes next to each other.
