You realize he has won at least 20 games every year he's been the head coach. Including 2004-2005 with that crap O'Brien left him with, the team from 2005-2006 wasn't exactly loaded either. Last year they went to the NCAA without a true point. Or are you going to take the same logic you do with Tressel and tell me that Evan Turner was a NBA Lotto pick when he came out of high school?
I think Matta and Tressel are good coaches, but developing players is not their strong suit.

They are both phenomenal recruiters and Matta is a much better game day coach. I also think Matta is a better player developer, which is evident by Eric Turner...but I don't think there is anything wrong in saying that I wish some of their talent developed better. I'm particularly going to point to Debler and Lighty as two who I think should be better than they are.

Wow. Lighty missed most of last season with an injury, not sure what you expected of him. He's a defensive specialist with limited offensive ability, yet he averaged 10 points and 6 boards last year before he got hurt.

Diebler came from a small high school and a gimmick scheme, yet averaged 11 points last season....he's nothing more than a shooter...most people knew that when he came to Ohio State.

Don't get me started on Tressel, he's better than you are giving him credit for...just so you know Jenkins, Lauranitis, and Robiske were all 3* recruits coming out of high school....yet all were Top 35 NFL Draft Picks but he can't develop anybody.

Purdue outlasts Michigan State for the Big 10 title. But it's gonna be fun to watch.

Alot of good coaches in the Big 10 now, alot of marquee coaches which I think has been the key to the rise of the Big 10.

You have Matt Painter, Tom Izzo, Tom Crean, Thad Matta, Bruce Weber, Bo Ryan, John Beilein and Tubby Smith.

Hell even Carmody and Dechellis are good coaches. That makes for good basketball.

How do you have a better team when you lost nearly every player from last season? I'll be surprised if Iowa doesn't finish last in the conference.

Re: 2009/10 Big 10 Conference Thread...

We probably will finish last because the big ten as a whole is better this year than last, but we had 3 freshman starting last year this team should be better.
