Re: Khan vs Peterson.....

Can there just be a significant fight without incident? My word!

Re: Khan vs Peterson.....

Khan suffered from doing too much talking about Floyd and looking past Peterson. Just about every interview I heard for this fight from Khan, you'd think he was fighting FM instead of Peterson by how much he was talking about wanting to fight FM and how to beat FM.

As for the fight, anyone who's seen AK fight enough times know he's known as one of the dirtiest fighters going. That leaning on the back stuff is a major part of his fight plan along with the pushing. He has fast hands and good foot speed in the ring, but if he fights FM, he may land some with his quick hands, but he isn't skilled enough nor mentally prepared for that fight right now so he needs to keep it closed and focus on that Peterson rematch.

Re: Khan vs Peterson.....

That was a good fight. Not sure what to think about the pushing fouls. But I will say it was about the first time I have seen a boxer use the push as an offensive weapon. Hard to explain but most pushing usually comes from mutual contact, AK was leading with the push in some cases. However, once he had points takin away for pushing, I am sure he was flustered as to what he could really do in the clinch.

It appears that both their punches look like they pack more pop than they actually do. The announcers were commenting on this. Some of those body punches looked real sharp, but they both had their wheels for the most part at the end.

Floyd would Destroy Khan. No way would I pay for that ever.

Bad call on the knockdown but that's based on a slo-mo replay. In real-time I could see the ref's side of things.
Good call.
This was a great fight and after round 3 you could see Peterson coming on strong.
I felt he landed the harder punches and dictated the pace for the most part.
Khan has incredible handspeed and a very good chin, but he seems to get hit pretty easily.
Roach needs to work on this guy's defense if he's going to be considered one of the best P4P fighters in the world.
Khan ready for Mayweather? Hardly.

Re: Khan vs Peterson.....

I was a Khan fan up until this fight, both his actions in the ring and after the fight. The two points may have been a bit much but when taken into consideration with the knockdown in the first I think that was washed (at least one point of it anyway). But I thought Khan should have lost the fight, he didnt do anything to win it. Peterson chased him around the ring all night and Khan never showed the judges that he really wanted to engage Peterson for any extended period of time. Khan showed he could touch him up with his combos but he just looked too scared to really get in and use them.

He allowed himself to get caught on the ropes way too often and his laziness and inability to prevent Peterson from getting him up against the ropes led to him pushing (which considering he was using a technically illegal strategy to try and take away the area that Peterson was showing an obvious advantage, against the ropes and probably should have been penalized).

If you spend most of your title defense running from the other guy when you are a better boxer because you really cant figure out how to overcome an area where you have a disadvantage than you deserve to come up short if it goes to a decision.

His post fight interview was just classless. I understand you are upset but Peterson deserved credit for what he did, he couldnt control the ref and if he was the cleaner fighter than he should have been able to counter Peterson in other ways than holding his head down and pushing. He kept commenting about Peterson leading with his head but it really never looked like an accidental headbut was a realistic possiblity.

Re: Khan vs Peterson.....

Agree with the general sentiment here; great fight, both good fighters, wish the ref hadn't taken the points for pushing. Maybe 1 at most, but definitely not 2. Sullied the outcome of an otherwise fantastic fight.

Khan landed more, but it seemed like at least 50% of his combinations landed on Peterson's gloves, and did not hurt him at all. On the other hand, Peterson landed the cleaner, more effective shots - some of those right hooks around Khan's gloves were hellacious shots, and I give Khan credit for having a pretty darn good jaw.

I'm also torn because I hate it when I feel like fighters get jobbed, but I definitely wanted Peterson to win because of his rags to riches story (and I feel like Khan is a bit of an arrogant douche...but that's just my interpretation of him). On a side note, was anyone else pumped up by Peterson's corner? What a great motivator that guy was! It made me want to go out and hit someone....but then, that would require that I put on pants, and I was already settled in for the night...

Pumped by his trainer but wanting to reach through the TV and strangle the rest of his corner. How hard is it to be ready to give your fighter a seat as soon as the bell rings. But love the way his trainer kept him standing after the first round when he got touched up a bit and then pushed him anytme he let off the gas.

Great fight!

I'm fine with the decision. When you consider what's judged; punching, defense, ring generalship & effective aggression, Peterson did a better job.

He connected at a higher rate with harder punches.
He blocked/avoided many of Khan's punches, evidenced by Khan's lower connect %.
Neither was a good ring general as Peterson didn't cut off the ring well yet Khan tried to evade but got caught often.
And Peterson effectively stalked Kahn from the 3rd round on, minus a couple.

I thought that was on purpose (that he was standing between the early rounds)??? If not, that is just sad...

After round one was on purpose (since he got tagged pretty good a couple times). After that his trainer was constantly having to yell at the other guys in the corner and at one point threatened them with sending them home if they didnt pay attention and hurry up.
