Gervonta Davis is scheduled to face off against Jake Paul in an exhibition fight on November 14 in Miami. Before the big event, the undefeated champion had made some controversial comments about the sport.
Tank looks visibly frustrated with the industry, as he has questioned the amount of loyalty left in boxing. The boxer’s recent comments suggest that he will likely be hanging up the boots after his fight against Jake Paul.
On X, he made a series of posts. One in particular was Davis declaring that boxing is dead. After a fan suggested he retire, the veteran simply responded that he will in 8 weeks. This could be a major spoiler that Davis will be retiring after his fight with Paul.
“Boxing definitely took a turn… it went back and forth… and this sh*t has no loyalty,” Davis wrote on X.
Gervonta Davis Deactivated All His Socials
In the wake of a social media exchange with Shakur Stevenson and an upcoming exhibition fight against Jake Paul on November 14, Gervonta Davis has made an interesting move. He has deactivated his social media accounts, including X and Instagram.
The veteran has seemingly told close contacts that he was fed up with the sports. Reports of his retirement following the Paul fight have also spread on social media. The ‘boxing is dead’ statement leads to many believing that retirement is indeed coming.
Davis’ trainer, Kenny Ellis, denied the retirement rumors, but Davis himself has revealed on social media that he’s done in 8 weeks. The veteran not only plans on leaving boxing, but also the social media world as well, after he deactivated all of his social media accounts. Davis is an explosive talent, but his lack of fights against Devin Haney or Shakur Stevenson has sparked doubts among many about his legacy. The retirement, if it does happen after the Paul fight, will close a controversial career in Boxing for Davis.
Paul And Davis Will Fight On November 14
Jake Paul vs. Gervonta Davis is set for Miami on November 14. The fans are surely awaiting to see the exhibition match, as the stakes are higher.
The fight will be a 10-round exhibition, with 12-ounce gloves and a weight limit of 195 pounds. According to promoter Eddie Hearn, Davis could earn between $30 million and $40 million. This would be double what he was paid in his fight against Ryan Garcia in 2023.
Both fighters have bet $2 million on the winner of the fight. It remains to be seen what the outcome of the fight turns out to be, since it certainly promises to be a highly physical encounter.
